The Toronto Blue Jays took care of business to even up the series up with the San Francisco Giants last night. The Jays send Kevin Gausman to the mound on Thursday afternoon against Jordan Hicks.

The latest Giants vs Blue Jays odds for Thursday have the Giants as -130 moneyline favorites with an over/under of 7.5 (-115o /-105u), with the majority of the money on the over.

Let’s see who has the upper hand below in this afternoon’s matchup in my Giants vs Blue Jaysprediction for Thursday, July 11.

It has been a bizarre season for Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman, who enters Thursday afternoon's start with a 4.34 ERA and 1.34 WHIP.

His xERA is shockingly high, sitting at 5.29. Gausman has been one of the most consistent starters in baseball over the last four seasons, but it seems like his dominant days on the mound are over.

Gausman also has an xSLG of .498, which is bottom-5 amongst all MLB pitchers. Hitters are squaring up the baseball at will, which does not bode well for today's game.

On the flip side, the Jays face Jordan Hicks, who is a regression candidate moving forward. In their limited history against him, they are 7-for-22 with one HR and five walks.

The Jays offense has a good chance of scoring some runs early, but I lack confidence in the current state of Gausman to tout them as a good bet. However, there should not be any lack of run-scoring opportunities throughout the game.

Jordan Hicks is the key to the game for the Giants, considering he has been fortunate so far in 2024. The 27-year-old right-hander enters Thursday's start with a 3.47 ERA and 1.32 WHIP.

Hicks is not generating as many strikeouts as he was when he was a reliever, and he has been a victim of getting hit hard by the opposition. He has always had control issues, but he is generating an ample amount of ground balls.

The Giants draw a matchup with their former teammate Kevin Gausman. They are batting .255 over 55 at-bats lifetime, which is a large enough sample size to impact the handicap.

Gausman is still generating a healthy amount of strikeouts, but all of the other metrics suggest he is a below-average starter. I am going to go on a hunch that the Giants' offense can have success against this current version of Gausman.

Betting Pick & Prediction

I am going to target the full game over on Thursday afternoon. Both starting pitchers have too many issues that give me cause for concern, and it is setting up for the offenses to shine.

Both bullpens are horrific, so it is nice to have that added luxury if the starting pitchers perform better than expected. The Jays scored 10 runs last night, and I think their offense continues to roll today.

The Giants should come out with their hair on fire after being embarrassed last night, so it is a great buy-low opportunity for their offense

Pick: Over 7.5 (-115)
