The Philadelphia Phillies (5-1) host the Los Angeles Dodgers (8-0) on Friday, April 4. First pitch from Citizens Bank Park is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. EDT; the game will be broadcast on Apple TV+.

Dodgers vs Phillies odds have the Dodgers as -140 moneyline favorites and Phillies as +118 underdogs to pull off the upset over undefeated L.A. The over/under is set at 8 (-110/-110). The Dodgers are +122 to cover the run line (-1.5) and the Phillies are -145 to cover the spread (+1.5). The Dodgers have covered the run line in six of their eight wins.

Dodgers vs Phillies Parlay

  • Jesus Luzardo to Record the Win
  • Jesus Luzardo Over 5.5 Strikeouts
  • Yoshinobu Yamamoto Over 1.5 Earned Runs

Parlay odds: +800 (bet365)

Luzardo appears to be a pitcher worth buying on right now, as his arsenal could prove to be one of the best in baseball this season. The Dodgers obviously provide a tough matchup, but we can live with that, given that Luzardo could arguably be the superior starter and is backed by one of the league's best lineups.

Luzardo has the stuff to rack up K's at a high rate this season, and even versus the Dodgers, 5.5 strikeouts appears to be somewhat of a low line. We are obviously targeting him having a strong outing with this parlay, so this is a well-correlated second leg.

The Phillies lineup will have a good chance of managing two earned runs off of Yamamoto, who has pitched five full innings in each of his first two outings and should have a pretty lengthy leash unless things go quite astray early. If they can manage two runs off of the Yamamoto in the first five innings, it should offer Luzardo a great chance to collect the win.

While the Dodgers' core features many likable players who are easy to cheer for, it's pretty hard to root for them as a neutral observer who simply wants to watch a competitive season. During their 8-0 start, they held a +22 run differential and appeared poised for a historically strong campaign. However, the 7-0 San Diego Padres hold a +25 run differential and will hopefully make the NL West race competitive.

The Dodgers hold a fifth-ranked wRC+ of 130 this season and rank sixth in wOBA. The Phillies are ahead of them in both of those categories and are rostering a comparably potent lineup, with Freddie Freeman currently sidelined due to injury.

After posting a 3.00 ERA and 3.44 xERA throughout his rookie season in 2024, Yamamoto appears likely to produce comparable results. He holds a 3.11 xERA and 3.55 FIP in his first two starts and a Stuff+ rating of 99, which is comparable to last season. The consensus from the major projection systems is that Yamamoto will hold an ERA just north of 3.40 this season.

While a matchup versus the Dodgers with Yamamoto on the mound is about as tough as it gets, the case for Philadelphia's chances of winning this matchup is pretty strong. The Phillies are 3-0 at home this season after recording a record of 54-27 at Citizens Bank Park in 2024. They have no notable players on the IR and will have a pitcher with the potential to be among the NL's best starters on the mound in Jesus Luzardo.

Luzardo was dominant in his Phillies debut, recording 11 K's across five innings of work versus the Washington Nationals. He allowed an xERA of just 2.34 and a FIP of 2.25. He held a Stuff+ rating of 110 and a Pitching+ rating of 119.

In his last healthy season (2023), Luzardo held a Stuff+ rating of 109 and recorded an ERA of 3.58.

Luzardo displayed improved velocity in his first season start compared to 2024 and debuted a new 'sweeper' that could work well alongside his slider. If Luzardo can stay healthy, he appears to be poised for a significantly better campaign than we saw in 2024, when he took a step back after two straight excellent campaigns.

The Phillies lineup will provide a tough matchup for Yamamoto, as they held a wRC+ of 104 versus righties last season and are off to an incredible start in 2025. Philadelphia owns a wRC+ rating of 178 versus RHP this season and has struck out only 13.3% of the time.

A series versus the Colorado Rockies' pitching staff certainly helped bolster those early numbers. Still, from a wider lens, a healthy Phillies lineup should certainly be among the most potent in baseball once again.

Dodgers vs Phillies Predictions, F5 Analysis

Bettors certainly won't be lining up to fade the undefeated Dodgers in this matchup, but some strong arguments suggest it may be the right time to do so.

Luzardo has the potential to be the superior of these two starters and could get some strong run support from a lineup that is also likely to be among the best in baseball.

Betting the Phillies to win the game at +112 is an option, but I'm happy to isolate the Luzardo versus Yamamoto innings for a slightly lesser price of +108.

Pick: Phillies F5 Moneyline +108 (FanDuel, Play to +103)
