The Seattle Mariners reach the final stop of their three-city road swing this weekend in the Nation's Capital with a three-game interleague set against the Washington Nationals.

The Nationals dropped the final two games of their series against the Twins, marking their fourth consecutive series loss. The M's remain atop the American League West race as no one else in the division owns a winning record. The starting pitching matchup is a good one, as command-artist George Kirby takes on the Nationals' MacKenzie Gore.

Seattle Mariners

Seattle started this trip with a series loss at Baltimore before grabbing the first two games in the Bronx against the Yankees.

But the Mariners dropped the final two contests at Yankee Stadium, capped by getting blanked in Thursday's finale, 5-0.

George Kirby continues to be hit-or-miss when he takes the mound for the Mariners. Seattle has posted a 4-6 record when Kirby starts. The right-hander didn't allow a run in three of those wins. However, Kirby gave up four runs or more in four of Seattle's six losses, including yielding five runs in six innings in his last start at Baltimore, a 6-3 defeat as a +130 underdog.

Kirby faced the Nationals in 2022 as a hefty -300 home favorite but lost 3-1 despite striking out nine batters in seven innings.

The Mariners have dropped three of their last four road series openers, with the only victory coming earlier this week against the Yankees. Seattle erased a 4-1 ninth-inning deficit in a shocking 5-4 win.

Washington Nationals

The Nationals posted an impressive 8-3 stretch towards the end of April, which lasted into May, but Washington has gone backward in the last four series.

Washington has been mired in a 3-9 slump across the past 12 games, including scoring just two runs in the final two losses to Minnesota this week.

Interestingly enough, all three wins during this cold streak came in series openers. The Nats are 3-0 in their past three home series openers against the Twins, Orioles, and Blue Jays.

Left-hander MacKenzie Gore takes the mound for Washington, who is winless in his last six starts. The Nationals are 1-5 in this stretch with the lone win coming against Toronto as Washington erased a 6-1 deficit in an 11-8 victory.

Gore pitched well his last time out at Philadelphia by tossing 6 1/3 innings while allowing three hits and two runs, but the Phillies tied the game in the ninth and walked it off in the 10th of a 4-3 triumph.

The southpaw has finished under his strikeout prop in three straight home starts while opposing left-handed starting pitchers facing Seattle have hit the under on their strikeout props in three of the past four opportunities.

The Nationals have allowed the first run in four of Gore's five home starts, but the Mariners have given up the first run in five of the past six games overall.

Betting Pick & Prediction

Kirby has struggled on the road, while Gore hasn't been great recently so one of those two pitchers will try to get on track tonight.

The Nationals have found a way to perform well in home series openers of late, all coming against American League opponents and all in the underdog role.

Let's back Washington here to end its short slide and beat Seattle at Nationals Park.

Pick: Nationals ML (+124 | Play to +120)
