Mattress Mack is hoping to spring back.
Jim McIngvale, the Houston furniture magnate who owns the Gallery Furniture set of stores in Houston, has bet $4 million more on the Astros to win the World Series.
He bet $2 million in Iowa, equally split between Unibet and Betfred. He also got down $2 million at BetMGM in Vegas, all at +500.
The bets boosted “Mack” up to $10 million in bets on Houston. Last week, he placed a $2 million bet at Barstool in Louisiana at +533 odds.
Earlier in the season, he bet $3 million at Caesars at +1000 and $1 million at WynnBet at 12/1.
“Mack” typically bets in the $10 million range on the Astros, having won only his bet in 2017, but told the Action Network that this year is different as he has stepped up his furniture promotion.
Beginning in May, “Mack” promised his customers that if Houston won the World Series this year, not only would they get the money back from their furniture buys of more than $3,000, they would get double their money.
“We had to do the ‘double your money’ promotion because the furniture business is in the middle of a recession,” Mack said.
Mack said the promotion was so successful — and the liability has climbed so quickly — that he’s going to have to cut it off earlier than usual.
The Astros are currently 62-32, the second-best record in the American League behind the New York Yankees.
Mack’s most recent big bet outside of baseball was $2.6 million on the Kentucky Derby, which he bet on Epicenter and a bunch of exotics. He lost.
It racked up his losses in 2022 on publicly declared bets to $18 million — on Alabama, the Patriots, Titans and Bengals to win the title.
Mack recovered by netting $12.2 million on Kansas to win the NCAA basketball tournament.
