Jim 'Mattress Mack' McIngvale has never been afraid to bet big. But big bets sometimes come with big losses.

McIngvale had a large sum riding on his beloved Houston Astros to win the World Series and his hometown team had a 3-2 series lead over the Texas Rangers heading into Game 6 of the ALCS. He had to be feeling great about the Astros' chances with two games in Houston and just one win away from their third straight AL Pennant.

But things fell apart in a brutal way for the Astros and Mack's bets. The Astros were outscored in Game 6 (9-2 loss) and Game 7  (11-4 loss) by a combined 14 runs. Mack has been circumspect about mentioning how much he has down this time — we know he had at least $7.9M based on bets he disclosed publicly — but he did tell the Action Network he could have won more than the record $75M he won betting on the Astros to win the World Series last season.

Since netting the largest win in sports gambling history, McIngvale has been on the wrong end of a few huge wagers in 2023.

He lost $3 million betting on TCU vs. Georgia in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, $2 million on the Cowboys to beat the 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round and $1.2 million on the Kentucky Derby. And in 2019, Mack lost at least $13M in wagers on the Astros to win the World Series in that season.

When contacted about Monday's loss by the Action Network, Mack replied "Live to play another day!"
