Mets vs Angels Parlay: SGP Picks for Francisco Lindor, Jose Soriano, More

Mets vs Angels Parlay: SGP Picks for Francisco Lindor, Jose Soriano, More article feature image

The New York Mets played sound baseball in their series-opening win against the Los Angeles Angels. Paul Blackburn made his Mets debut on the mound and was extremely effective.

Tonight, it’ll be David Peterson on the mound against Jose Soriano. Soriano was touched up in his last start against the Oakland Athletics, so he is looking for much better results tonight.

I was able to build a 3-leg Same Game Parlay (SGP) with a payout of +532 at FanDuel.

Let’s dive into the breakdown of each leg of my Mets vs Angels parlay, which features prop picks for Francisco Lindor and more this Saturday in Anaheim.

Lindor continues to be a huge factor for the Mets offense. Despite a disappointing start to the season, he’s very much in the MVP discussion of the National League.

Lindor takes on Soriano tonight, and he is batting slightly worse against right-handers on the season. However, he’s been a much better hitter on the road, including 13 of his 22 HRs coming away from Citi Field.

He only has one plate appearance against Soriano in the past, but I like his chances to do some damage tonight. Soriano is a sinker ball pitcher, and Lindor has a 50% hard-hit rate, .434 xwOBA, and .336 xBA against.

José Soriano Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-115)

Soriano was touched up against the A’s in his last start, but I expect much better results tonight. He draws a tough matchup against the Mets lineup, but he’ll have an opportunity to redeem himself.

The Mets rank in the bottom third in offensive strikeouts per game, but they are getting punched out 25% of the time against right-handed pitching. They’re also batting almost .25 batting average points worse against righties as opposed to left-handers.

The Mets are also on the fortunate side of the punch out thus far, as the majority of their starting lineup has an elevated chase rate. Due to this, I’d expect their strikeout numbers to climb moving forward.

Soriano doesn’t have amazing chase and whiff rates, but he does know how to kick up the velocity. The Mets may not strike out too often overall as a team, but the line is suggesting Soriano is going to bounce back from his last start.

David Peterson vs Jose Soriano does not sound like a pitching duel, but both pitchers have one thing in common: elite ground ball rates. Both starters have above a 50% ground ball rate, which is crucial for keeping it a low-scoring affair.

The Mets bullpen was bolstered during the trade deadline, meanwhile, the Angels still have plenty of firepower coming out of their bullpen, despite the moves they made themselves. Last night's game went under the total, but frankly it should’ve soared over with the amount of runners left on base.

I still think Peterson and Soriano do a good enough job of keeping the ball on the ground, they should be able to limit the amount of balls that leave the yard today. Neither pitcher is elite by any stretch of the imagination, but tonight smells like a game both bullpens lock it down late and keep it a low-scoring game.
