The New York Mets host the Miami Marlins on April 9, 2025. First pitch from Citi Field is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. EDT; the game will be broadcast on SNY.

Today's pitching matchup should be intriguing, as Max Meyer gets the ball for Miami. He'll oppose Tylor Megill, who is off to a strong start in 2025, entering the matchup with an ERA below 1.00.

Miami Marlins Betting Preview: Meyer Looks to Build on Strong Start

After yesterday's 10-5 Mets triumph, we have an excellent opportunity to sell high on both offenses. The Marlins lost the game, but scoring five runs is well above what they are expected to output each game.

On the mound today is Max Meyer, one of the Marlins' prized pitching prospects. Meyer has flashed a lot of potential, and his metrics suggest he could be a breakout candidate in 2025.

Though it's still a small sample size, Meyer has shown real improvement this season — his strikeout, chase and whiff rates are all well above average. He has also reduced the number of free passes, which hurt him in 2024.

He may not be a future ace, but Meyer has enough tools to be a serviceable starter. If Meyer limits the walks and keeps the ball on the ground, he should do fine against the Mets.

I am skeptical about the Marlins bullpen, but I think Meyer has a chance for success on Wednesday afternoon.

New York Mets Betting Preview: Megill Set for Breakout Spot

It's also important to highlight the turnaround Tylor Megill has shown so far. After a strange 2024 season — bouncing between Triple-A and the Majors — Megill is beginning to show consistency.

He struggled with command last year, but managed to keep his strikeout, whiff and chase rates all above 27%, which suggests he was the subject of misfortune last season.

He allowed a lot of hard contact and walked too many hitters, but I like investing in pitchers who have flashed and are capable of consistently missing bats. He also averaged nearly 96 mph on his heater, so his velocity is another weapon in his bag of tricks.

Let's face it: the Marlins' offense will be among the league's worst in 2025, so this is an extremely strong matchup for Megill. The Marlins strikeout the ninth most in the league, so he should also compile a fair quantity of strikeouts this afternoon.

Marlins vs Mets Prediction, Betting Analysis

I do not believe in the Marlin's offense and think they will be the main reason the game finishes under the total. Only 4% of the bets are on the under, but there is a lot of sharp money coming across the counter in that direction.

I'll fade the world on today's afternoon tilt and take the under here. I like the upside from Megill and think Meyer's early season success illustrates a major improvement from last season.

Pick:Under 7 (Play to 6.5)
