The A's have played better than expected this season, but that doesn't mean they're good. Meanwhile, Milwaukee is closing in on a NL Central title.

The Brewers boast both the better offense and starting pitching in this game and although they're on the road, I have no problem backing them.

Let's start with the bats. Milwaukee is averaging 4.80 runs per game and although Oakland has been a bit better of late, the A's are still averaging just 3.98 runs per game. It is worth pointing out that they hit a bit better at home (4.17 runs per game), but that's not enough to make me pick them — especially given the starting pitching matchup.

Trade-deadline acquisition Frankie Montas is set to start for the Brewers and has been solid since joining Milwaukee. In four starts with the Brewers, the 31-year-old right hander is 2-0 with 21 strikeouts (eight walks) over 21 innings. He's given up six earned runs on 17 hits, but hasn't given up an earned run in either of his past two starts and twirled seven innings of one-hit ball against the Cardinals in his most recent outing.

On the other side of this matchup, the A's will start Joey Estes. A 22-year-old right-hander, Estes has pitched to a 4.44 ERA with a 4.37 xERA this season. Estes also threw well in his last outing, giving up just one run over 7 2/3 innings against the Rays, but ranks in the 44th percentile in xBA (.246) and the ninth percentile in whiff rate. Estes struggles to generate strikeouts and if the Brewers are going to consistently put the ball in play against a pitcher who ranks in the 31st percentile in hard-hit rate and the first percentile in ground-ball rate, I like their chances.

Pick: Brewers Moneyline (-120)
