This seems like a hefty number for Sasaki, who threw 46 and 41 pitches in his two official Spring Training outings.

The Dodgers have been forthcoming about managing his workload this season, especially after he dealt with diminished velocity in his final year in NPB.

L.A. got five innings out of Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Tuesday, with relievers covering the final four innings.

My guy Nick Galaida pointed out that Landon Knack and Justin Wrobleski are both on hand to cover multiple innings in relief. Knack went two-plus innings in his final two Spring Training outings, getting up to 50 pitches. Wrobleski lasted three-plus innings in his last two Spring Training appearances, reaching 58 pitches.

Knack and Wrobleski are arguably more stretched out than Sasaki right now. The Dodgers don't play for another week after this game so there's no reason to hold these guys back.

The Cubs had a pesky lineup in 2024, ranking ninth in pitches seen per plate appearance. They returned largely the same group this season, with the addition of Kyle Tucker and his excellent plate discipline.

During Spring Training, all the coachspeak from Dodgers camp was about limiting expectations for Roki Sasaki and making sure not to overwhelm him in his first tour of the big leagues.

They delayed his Spring Training debut until March 4, and even then, he was used in relief, facing a collection of mostly lower-level Reds hitters. On March 11, he went four innings against a B-lineup from the Guardians, but was still kept around the 40-pitch mark.

Los Angeles has 10 relievers on its Tokyo Series roster, including long-relief options Landon Knack and Justin Wrobleski.

This feels like a situation in which Sasaki goes four innings maximum, with an even shorter leash being a reasonable expectation.

This is tremendous value.

Pick: Roki Sasaki Under 13.5 Outs Recorded (-105)

Editor's Note: This line has since moved to 12.5 outs.

Derek Carty's Dodgers vs Cubs Best Bet: Sasaki Walks

Roki Sasaki Under 1.5 Walks Allowed (+132)

There may be some value on Sasaki's walks allowed prop.

THE BAT X is projecting him to record 1.24 walks allowed, and oddsmakers are implying 1.81. The model believes there is a 65% chance he allows fewer than two walks.

If you can get the under at +132 or better, that's great value.

Pick: Roki Sasaki Under 1.5 Walks Allowed (+132)
