Matchup | Shane McClanahan vs Kyle Hendricks |
First Pitch | 8:05 p.m. ET |
Today, we'll create a custom No Runs First Inning (NRFI) bet by analyzing the performances of two pitchers. This personalized bet can be crafted through sportsbooks such as DraftKings and Barstool.
This NRFI bet is different from a traditional NRFI, as it combines two separate half innings from the first innings of two different games. This approach allows you to have a better edge and tailor the bet to your preferences.
Our first NRFI selection will be former Cy Young award recipient Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins.
This season, Alcantara has showcased his commanding prowess on the NRFI, sporting a solid 9-1 record, including a 5-0 home NRFI split.
Alcantara's efficiency is remarkable, having conceded a mere 15 hits in 85 plate appearances, which culminates in a .176 average.
In prior matchups, Alcantara has been very proficient against these Padres hitters. His previous encounters include keeping Ha-Seong Kim (0-for-7), Matt Carpenter (0-for-7) and Nelson Cruz (1-for-7) at bay, as well as controlling Jake Cronenworth (1-for-61), Juan Soto (9-for-33) and Rougned Odor (0-for-3).
Of note is that Padres superstar Fernando Tatís Jr. will be facing Alcantara for the first time, giving Alcantara a slight edge in today's game.
Adding to Alcantara's favor, Tatís seems to be in a slump, managing just three hits in his last 25 plate appearances, which translates to a .120 average.
Over the past week, the Padres have struggled in the opening inning, obtaining just four hits in their last 26 plate appearances for a .190 average.
Our second NRFI selection will be Rays ace and this year's Cy Young contender Shane McClanahan. McClanahan boasts a nearly flawless 10-1 NRFI record, bringing his total to an impressive 30-8 since 2022 when facing batters the first time through the order.
His performance mirrors Alcantara's, with just 14 hits allowed in 85 at bats. That's led to a minimal .165 average.
Notably, McClanahan has a distinct split against teams' leadoff hitters, only ceding two hits in 29 at-bats to achieve an impressive .069 average.
His previous matchups against the Cubs' hitters have yielded excellent results; he's held Trey Mancini to 3-for-18, while Nico Hoerner, Ian Happ and Yan Gomes have all been kept hitless in their encounters.
Like the Padres, the Cubs have been faltering in the initial inning, securing only five hits in their last 28 at-bats over the past week. That's resulted in a dismal .192 average.
This custom NRFI investment is priced at -170 over on DraftKings and -165 over on Barstool Sportsbook.
As always, six out to glory…
