Matchup | Logan Gilbert vs. Joe Musgrove |
First Pitch | 9:40 p.m. ET |
Today, we head to Petco Park to analyze the potential value of a NRFI (No Run First Inning) bet between two formidable teams, the Seattle Mariners and the San Diego Padres.
Starting on the mound for the Padres is their experienced veteran, Joe Musgrove. Musgrove has been impressive this season, with a 5-2 NRFI record, including a perfect 3-0 NRFI record at home.
Since 2022, Musgrove boasts an outstanding 28-8 NRFI record, with a remarkable 14-3 NRFI record at home. His limited experience against most of the Mariners' hitters works in his favor, as he's previously dominated Ty France (0-for-2), Eugenio Suarez (4-for-14), Kolten Wong (4-for-22) and AJ Pollock (0-for-1).
The Mariners' recent struggles in the first inning are noteworthy, as they've managed only three hits in their last 20 plate appearances (.158 batting average).
Furthermore, they hold the fourth-highest strikeout rate during this span at 35%.
It's worth mentioning that their young superstar — Julio Rodriguez — has struggled as well, with only four hits in his last 21 at-bats (.191 batting average).
On the other side of the NRFI bet, we have the Mariners' Logan Gilbert. Unfortunately, Gilbert has had a tough season, sporting a 3-8 NRFI record.
Nevertheless, he's managed a respectable .215 average when facing batters for the first time in a game.
Gilbert has shown proficiency against several Padres hitters, including Xander Bogaerts (1-for-5), Jake Cronenworth (1-for-4), Juan Soto (0-for-1) and Manny Machado (2-for-5).
Surprisingly, the Padres have struggled in the first inning as well, making them the second-worst first-inning hitting team in baseball over the past week. They've mustered only two hits in their last 25 plate appearances.
Both Cronenworth and Soto have been struggling, with Cronenworth going 3-for-27 and Soto going 3-for-22 in the past week.
Considering Gilbert's struggles this year in NRFI situations, both teams' potent lineups and the favorable odds offered by the bookmakers at -120, the NRFI bet presents excellent value for bettors.
As always, six outs to glory.
