On Friday, we travel to Citizens Bank Park to take an NRFI between two National League teams — the Diamondbacks and the Phillies.
Kyle Gibson is as good as it gets when it comes to NRFI potential at home. Since 2019 at Citizens Bank, Gibson is 35-7 to the NRFI. Taking it one step further, Gibson is 22-2 when he's the favorite.
His 2022 overall NRFI record is just as respectable at 10-1. In 42 first-inning batters, Kyle has issued only two walks and held the hitters in check with a .175 batting average against.
Since 2021, Gibson also owns an NRFI record of 2-0 against the Diamondbacks. Here's how he has done in some of the matchups:
- Ketel Marte: 3-for-15
- David Peralta: 2-for-7
- Pavin Smith: 0-for-6
- Christan Walker: 0-for-4
It should be noted that Walker and Peralta are hitting a combined 7-for-46 in the last seven days.
On the other side, we have Diamondbacks ace Zac Gallen. He’s having an outstanding 2022 campaign, making him a major deadline trade piece for the Diamondbacks.
Gallen's 9-1 2022 NRFI record has resulted in some remarkable first-inning numbers. In 36 first-inning batters faced, Gallen has issued just two walks while holding hitters to a lousy .177 average. When facing hitters the first time through the order, Gallen has held them all to a respectable .165 average.
Like Gibson, Gallen is 2-0 to the NRFI against the Phillies. Here's how he has fared in the past against some of Philadelphia's key hitters:
- Bryce Harper: 1-for-4
- JT Realmuto: 0-for-3
- Rhys Hoskins: 0-for-1
Despite the Phillies' recent hitting success, they still rank 27th in first-inning team batting average at .167 over the last 15 days.
Look for Gibson and Gallen to continue their first-inning success today. Take the NRFI between the Diamondbacks and the Phillies.
As always, six outs to glory…
