On Wednesday, we head to Cleveland for our NRFI pick.

Shane Bieber is a well-known NRFI great. Since 2021, he is 23-3 to the NRFI and 9-1 to start 2022.

Bieber's first-inning numbers are nothing short of remarkable. Against 35 first-inning batters this season, Shane has only allowed two hits and three walks. This is good for a 0.90 ERA and .063 batting average against. Bieber is also holding hitters to only a lousy .134 average when facing them the first time through the order.

Here is how the Guardians ace has fared in the past against Rangers hitters he's likely to face:

  • Kole Calhoun: 2-for-9
  • Mitch Garver: 2-for-16
  • Marcus Semien: 1-for-3

In the last seven days, Texas is hitting significantly below its season average, as well:

  • Marcus Semien: 5-for-26
  • Mitch Garver: 4-for-24
  • Kole Calhoun: 1-for-19
  • Jonah Heim: 3-for-17

On the other side, we have Dane Dunning going for the Rangers. To a slight surprise, Dunning has been one of the better NRFI pitchers in 2022. He's off to a hot 9-2 start, which now makes him 22-13 since 2021.

Against 47 first-inning batters, Dane has allowed only 10 hits while striking out 19.

When the game total is less than or equal to 8.5, he is 20-6 to the NRFI since 2021. June has also been promising for Dunning so far, having held the 25 batters he's faced to a .130 batting average.

Here is how Dunning has done in the past against these Cleveland hitters:

  • Myles Straw: 1-for-4
  • Jose Ramirez: 2-for-4
  • Austin Hedges: 0-for-2

It should be noted that Guardians hitters Myles Straw, Steven Kwan and Austin Hedges are coming off a rough May, all hitting below .200.

Both pitchers have nine NRFI wins this season. We'll bet them to reach double digits together.

As always, six outs to glory…
