On Monday, we travel to New York to take an NRFI between two American League teams.
Jordan Montgomery has had a phenomenal 2022 NRFI campaign thus far, going 12-2 overall with a 6-1 home NRFI split.
To make things even better, Montgomery is holding opposing No.. 1 and No. 2 hole hitters to .162 and .179 averages, respectively. A select few pitchers in the league boast a split like this.
Here's how Montgomery has fared in the past against these Athletics hitters:
- Chad Pinder: 1-for-7
- Sean Murphy: 0-for-2
- Ramon Laureano: 0-for-3
- Elvis Andrus: 0-for-5
Over the last 15 days, the Athletics have been among the worst first-inning hitting teams in baseball. With a .175 average, they've gone just 7-for-40 as a team.
On the other side, we have Paul Blackburn, who's posting a respectable 9-5 NRFI record in 2022.
He also owns a 6-2 road NRFI split. He’s oddly a way better pitcher on the road than at home, as his ERA in Oakland sits at 5.87 with 30 innings pitched, while his road ERA is a very impressive 1.00 In 45 innings pitched.
He hasn’t given up a single home run on the road this year en route to a 5-0 record as a starter.
Blackburn is 1-0 to the NRFI against the Yankees in past. Here's how he fared in the matchups:
- DJ LeMahieu: 0-for-2
- Aaron Judge: 0-for-2
- Josh Donaldson: 1-for-3
The Yankees' bats have been underperforming, as they recently got no-hit as well. Here's how some of their hitters have done over the last seven days:
- Giancarlo Stanton: 3-for-25
- Anthony Rizzo: 2-for-22
- Judge: 5-for-26
- Donaldson: 4-for-22
All of them are significantly hitting below their season averages — and hitting under .200 in this span.
To no surprise, this has led the Yankees to the 29th-ranked first-inning batting average at .158 over the last 15 days. They also rank 27th in soft contact rate at 22.6%.
Look for these New York hitters to remain in the slump, allowing Blackburn to continue his road success and pick up NRFI win No. 10. At the same time, Jordan Montgomery should continue his success and secure a league-high 13th NRFI win.
Take the NRFI between the Athletics and the Yankees.
As always, six outs to glory…
