The AL Central-winning White Sox face off with the Houston Astros, winners of the AL West. Houston had a tw-game advantage over the White Sox, giving it home-field advantage throughout the ALDS.
The pitching matchup for the start of this ALDS is an intriguing one, as the "Battle of Lances" will pit the White Sox Lance Lynn against Astros' righty Lance McCullers Jr.
Both pitchers had 10+ wins on the season and sub-3.20 ERAs, with McCullers having the advantage in strikeouts and Lynn having the edge in WHIP.
While both pitchers should give their respective squads confidence, the regular season results would seem to suggest that the Astros have a considerable edge.
Houston won the season series 5-2, but interestingly enough, Chicago won the last two games of the series.
Not only did the White Sox win the last two games of the series, but they won them by a combined score of 14-1.
Over those two games, Chicago got immaculate performances from Carlos Rodon (seven innings, 10 Ks, no earned runs) and Lucas Giolioto (complete game, one earned run).
