MLB Opening Day 2025 is scheduled for Thursday, March 27, when 28 teams will be in action in matchups spread throughout the day.

Freddy Peralta vs. Carlos Rodón

For the second straight season, Freddy Peralta gets the Opening Day start for the Brewers. Last season, he beat the Mets in his first career Opening Day start, throwing six innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts against just one walk.

The Yankees turn to left-hander Carlos Rodón, who is set to make his second career Opening Day start. Gerrit Cole was originally slated to make this start for the Yankees but had to be replaced because of his need for Tommy John surgery.

Zach Eflin vs. José Berríos

With Grayson Rodriguez set to open the season on the injured list, the Orioles are starting veteran Zach Eflin on Opening Day. It's Eflin's second nod on Opening Day. The right-hander delivered a stellar 2.60 ERA over 55 innings with the O's last season after coming over from the Rays via trade.

For the third time in his Blue Jays career and fifth time overall, José Berríos gets the nod on Opening Day. A steady presence, Berríos has accumulated 382 innings with a 3.63 ERA over his last two seasons with Toronto.

Garrett Crochet vs. Nathan Eovaldi

Acquired over the offseason in a blockbuster trade with the White Sox, Garrett Crochet is set to make his Red Sox debut on Opening Day. In his first season as a starter last year, Crochet racked up 209 strikeouts and recorded a 3.58 ERA over 146 innings.

Nathan Eovaldi is the seventh Rangers pitcher in franchise history to make two straight Opening Day starts, joining Nolan Ryan, Kevin Millwood, Charlie Hough, Ken Hill, Jon Matlack and Dick Bosman. Eovaldi, who is 24-13 with a 3.72 ERA in two seasons with the Rangers, re-signed with Texas over the offseason for three years and $75 million.

Zack Wheeler vs. MacKenzie Gore

Unsurprisingly, the Phillies are giving the ball to ace Zack Wheeler, who is in line for his second consecutive Opening Day start. Wheeler shoved against Washington last season with a 2.29 ERA and 23:5 K:BB ratio over 19 2/3 innings (three starts).

On the other side, MacKenzie Gore is looking to build on a 2024 season in which he set career highs in innings (166 1/3), ERA (3.90), strikeouts (181) and starts (32).

Chris Sale vs. Michael King

Reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Chris Sale gets the ball for his sixth career Opening Day start. Sale previously made Opening Day starts for the White Sox (2013, 2014, 2016) and Red Sox (2018, 2019).

The 35-year-old went 18-3 with a 2.38 ERA, 2.09 FIP, 11.40 K/9, 0.46 HR/9 and 6.4 fWAR last season. Sale tied for the most wins in the Majors (with Tarik Skubal) while those other markers paced the league.

Acquired in the blockbuster Juan Soto trade, Michael King delivered in his first season in San Diego, posting a 2.95 ERA and 201 strikeouts over 173 2/3 innings (30 starts). This will be King's first career start on Opening Day.

Yusei Kikuchi vs. Sean Burke

The Angels shelled out a three-year, $63 million contract to sign Yusei Kikuchi in free agency. Naturally, he gets Opening Day honors — his first in his career — for the Halos.

Looking to turn the page on a historically bad season, the White Sox turn to right-hander Sean Burke on Opening Day. The 24-year-old posted a 1.42 ERA over 19 innings (three starts) in his debut season last year.

Royals Logo
Tanner Bibee vs. Cole Ragans

Solid but not spectacular, Tanner Bibee toes the slab for the Guardians on Opening Day. The right-hander was plenty serviceable for Cleveland last season as he ate up 173 2/3 innings with a 3.47 ERA. Set for his first career Opening Day start, Bibee agreed to a five-year contract extension before the season.

One of 2024's breakout stars, Cole Ragans will start the Royals' home opener. The left-hander was brilliant last season, totaling 223 strikeouts with a 3.14 ERA en route to fourth-place finish in AL Cy Young Award voting.

Astros Logo
Clay Holmes vs. Framber Valdez

A longtime reliever, Clay Holmes gets the surprise nod for the Mets on Opening Day. Holmes, who inked a three-year deal with New York over the offseason, has not started a game since 2018 when he was a member of the Pirates. His transition from reliever to starter went swimmingly during Spring Training as he surrendered just two runs over 13 1/3 innings with 18 strikeouts.

For the fourth straight year, Framber Valdez gets the Opening Day nod for the Astros. The left-hander recorded a 2.91 ERA over 176 1/3 innings (28 starts) in 2024.

Logan Webb vs. Hunter Greene

The Giants turn to old reliable, Logan Webb, on Opening Day. Like Framber Valdez, Webb is set to make his fourth straight start on Opening Day. A throwback pitcher, Webb has surpassed 200 innings pitched in his last two seasons.

Hunter Greene made a leap in 2024, posting career-best marks in innings (150 1/3), ERA (2.75) and strikeouts (169) en route to his first All-Star nod and an eighth-place NL Cy Young finish. This will be Greene's second start on Opening Day.

Paul Skenes vs. Sandy Alcantara

Coming off his Rookie of the Year campaign, Paul Skenes gets the ball for the first time on Opening Day. Expectations are high for Skenes, as he is the heavy favorite to win NL Cy Young (+300 on DraftKings).

Speaking of hardware, Skenes will be opposed by 2022 NL Cy Young Winner Sandy Alcantara, who is looking to reestablish himself as one of the game's best pitchers after a down 2023 season that was followed by a lost 2024 due to Tommy John surgery. This marks Alcantara's fifth Opening Day start, which is the most in Marlins franchise history.

Cardinals Logo
Pablo Lopez vs. Sonny Gray

An All-Star in 2023, Pablo Lopez endured a "down" 2024 season in which his ERA jumped from 3.66 to 4.08 — though he did win a career-best 15 games. This will be Lopez's third start on Opening Day.

Lopez will take on former teammate Sonny Gray, who was also an All-Star for the Twins in 2023. Gray is slated for his fourth Opening Day start.

Mets Logo
Tarik Skubal vs. Blake Snell

As expected, Tarik Skubal gets the nod for the Tigers. The left-hander achieved the AL pitching Triple Crown last season and took home Cy Young honors. He's the favorite to win the award again (+380 on DraftKings).

Already 2-0 after sweeping the Tokyo Series, the Dodgers turn to Blake Snell for their home opener. Snell, a two-time Cy Young winner, spent the last four seasons pitching for rival clubs in the Padres and Giants.

Luis Severino vs. Logan Gilbert

A surprise offseason signing for the notoriously cheap A's, Luis Severino gets his second career Opening Day nod (his first was back in 2018 with the Yankees).

Severino will be opposed by the one of the game's best in Mariners ace Logan Gilbert, who led MLB in innings (208 2/3), starts (33) and WHIP (0.887) in 2024. This will be Gilbert's first start on Opening Day.

Justin Steele vs. Zac Gallen

Justin Steele is set to make his second start of the season after a rough outing in Tokyo, where he allowed five runs over four innings against the Dodgers.

The Diamondbacks made one of the offseason's biggest splashes by signing Corbin Burnes, but it will be longtime ace Zac Gallen who gets the start on Opening Day, the third of his career.
