Tony Sartori's Tanner Bibee Prop Pick
By Tony Sartori
Right-hander Tanner Bibee takes the mound for the Cleveland Guardians in Game 2, and he should serve as a good candidate to back. Over 31 regular-season starts, Bibee posted a 12-8 record with a 3.47 ERA and 1.12 WHIP.
His underlying metrics were equally strong as the right-hander ranked in the top half of the league in xERA, average exit velocity, walk rate, barrel rate and hard-hit rate. This success has continued into the postseason as Bibee sports a 2.08 ERA through two starts.
We are going to specifically back Bibee in the prop market, considering that he ranked in the 61st percentile in whiff rate and 74th percentile in strikeout rate this year.
You can currently find his strikeout prop at 4.5, a total he has surpassed in nine of his last 11 starts.
Pick: Tanner Bibee Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-125 | Play to -130)
D.J. James's Jazz Chisholm Jr. Player Props Analysis
By D.J. James
The New York Yankees are tasked with facing Guardians "ace" Tanner Bibee in Game 2 of the ALCS.
Bibee is solid and held a 3.47 ERA against a 3.80 xERA. However, his ground-ball rate (35.2%) ranked in the 10th percentile this year.
His Average Exit Velocity was a touch above 88 mph on the year, but his bread-and-butter has been missing bats. He had a 26.3% strikeout rate and an excellent walk rate.
Everyone will be focusing on Juan Soto, Giancarlo Stanton or Aaron Judge to do damage against Bibee — not me.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. quietly has a .405 xwOBA with a 14.3% strikeout rate in the playoffs. His xBA is .300, as well. Chisholm's had a higher ground-ball rate, but seeing as Bibee does not keep the ball on the ground, this should not be an issue.
Now, the Guardians' relief staff has been excellent. They have thrown over 30 innings and they can rack up strikeouts in bunches.
On the other hand, their ground-ball rate has been under 30%, so Chisholm could also elevate the ball into a gap or on a line against the relief staff, too.
Bibee will miss bats, but Chisholm has value in making contact and putting the ball in play.
