We have another loaded MLB slate on Tuesday.
Gavin Lux will look to stay hot in Game 2 against the Cardinals, Freddy Peralta will try to secure a win for the Brewers and the Dodgers will attempt to get to Sandy Alcantara early and often.
Let's dive into my MLB player props and Major League Baseball picks for Tuesday, April 29.
MLB Prop Picks — Tuesday, April 29
- Gavin Lux Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + Runs Batted In (-140 · BetMGM)
- Freddy Peralta To Record A Win (-110 · Fanatics)
- Sandy Alcantara Over 2.5 Earned Runs (-120 · BetMGM)
Cardinals vs Reds Player Props: Big Performance for Lux
Gavin Lux landed in Cincinnati after spending his first six seasons with the Dodgers. After a slow start to the season, he has turned it on.
Since April 3, he's hitting .394 with 12 runs scored, seven doubles, 13 runs batted in and an OPS of 1.011. The Reds have gone 12-8 in that span as well.
Lux enters this game third in MLB in batting average (.352) and 19th in OPS (.911).
He finds himself on a 13-game hitting streak, which includes two hits in each of his last three games. That has helped him clear this line in nine of his last 10 games.
If the last three games are any indication, he may just need hits. However, he has scored a run in seven of his last 10 games and driven in a run in six of them as well.
With Miles Mikolas on the mound, I like his chances to stay hot tonight. Mikolas has a 5.70 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and just 13 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings.
He's surrendering a batting average over .300 on the road, at night and against left-handed hitters this season. Lux is 2-for-5 with a home run (+800) against him, and another long-ball would give us a cash here.
Brewers vs White Sox Player Props: Battle of the Centrals
After splitting their first four games, the White Sox have gone 5-19 since. Tonight, they're +200 on the moneyline when they host the Brewers.
Milwaukee has started off its road trip at just 2-5, but it has have an ace on the mound in Freddy Peralta.
The Brewers have won three of Peralta's last five starts, and he has earned two of those decisions. The Brewers have scored 16 runs in Peralta's last four starts.
He has done his part as well, posting a 2.43 ERA with a .203 opponent batting average and 36 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings.
Managing his pitch count can be an issue, but Peralta has pitched the five innings necessary to qualify for a win in all of his starts this season.
He should shut the White Sox down tonight, so with a little run support, I would expect him to pick up his third victory tonight.
Marlins vs Dodgers Player Props: Time to Fade Sandy?
From 2021-23, Sandy Alcantara racked up a WAR of 15.6. However, he's working his way back from Tommy John surgery this season and has struggled early.
After allowing two earned runs in his first two starts, he has allowed three runs or more in each of his last three starts. That includes six earned runs in just two innings against the Phillies.
Alcantara carries a 6.56 ERA entering tonight's start, and I wouldn't expect it to get much lower tonight.
The Dodgers rank seventh in the MLB in runs scored this season. They have scored six runs or more in five of their last six games, the lone exception being a game started by Paul Skenes.
Four of the starters they've faced have allowed three earned runs or more. The Dodgers also scored five against Edward Cabrera in four innings last night.
Alcantara owns an 8.38 ERA in six career starts against the Dodgers, and that elevates to 12.94 in four starts at Dodger Stadium. He ranks in the 25th percentile or worse in average exit velocity, hard-hit percentage, strikeout rate and walk rate.
I expect his struggles to continue against Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Co.
