The Yankees took a 1-0 series lead grabbing the victory in Game 1 against the Guardians at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.
While the Guardians aren't a strikeout-heavy lineup, Yankees ace Gerrit Cole brought his strikeout stuff in that game as he fanned eight Cleveland batters. The Yankees won a clean, well pitched game 4-1.
With solid pitchers Shane Bieber and Nestor Cortes on the mound in Game 2, could we see another low scoring game in the Bronx?
The Parlay (+550):
- Shane Bieber 6+ Strikeouts
- Nestor Cortes 5+ Strikeouts
- Under 7.5 Alternate Total Runs
Same-Game Parlay – Team vs Team
Shane Bieber 6+ Strikeouts
Bieber struck out eight in 7 2/3 innings against the Rays in his start in the first round of the playoffs. Bieber had a 25% K% and 3.48 xFIP during the regular season.
Unlike the Guardians, the Yankees do have a strikeout-heavy lineup as all but one hitter (Isiah Kiner-Falefa 14% K% against right-handed pitching this season) have at least a 19% K% against right-handed pitching this season.
Bieber had a 2.65 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 119 innings on the road this year so I'm not worried about him having success in a hostile road playoff environment.
Nestor Cortes 5+ Strikeouts
The Guardians aren't a heavy strikeout team as only four hitters in their projected lineup have at least a 19% K% against left-handed pitching. Cortes has a 26% K% during the regular season.
While the Yankees had the bye in the first round, Cortes struck out 12 Orioles in his last regular season start. Cortes struck out batters at a higher rate than Bieber during the regular season, but his prop is lower because Cleveland doesn't strike out as much as the Yankees.
I'll take the value we're getting with Cortes at five strikeouts.
Under 7.5 Alternate Runs Totals
It makes sense to tie this parlay with the over on both starting pitchers' strikeout props together with the under. I don't believe 6.5 is a safe line, though. Not with the Yankees potent lineup against Bieber and the holes in New York's bullpen without Michael King, Aroldis Chapman, Zach Britton, and Scott Effross.
So we'll add one more run on the alternate run total to make it 7.5 for a little extra comfort.
