The hits keep on coming for the New York Mets. After blowing a 10-game lead in the National League East, the Metropolitans had ace pitcher Max Scherzer on the mound at home for Game 1 of the Wild Card Round.
New York lost as Scherzer had his worst start ever in the playoffs, allowing seven earned runs.
The Mets have their backs against the wall in Game 2 and will turn to Jacob deGrom. Can they get the job done and force a Game 3 or will San Diego advance Saturday?
The Parlay (+900):
- Mets Moneyline
- Under 6.5
- Starling Marte 1+ Stolen Bases
Same-Game Parlay – Padres vs. Mets
Mets Moneyline
The Mets are one game away from completing their collapse, but with deGrom on the mound in Game 2 I think they'll live to fight at least one more day.
New York's psyche has to be shaken after the way Scherzer pitched in Game 1, but momentum is only as good as the next day's starting pitcher and deGrom is as good as they come. He'll get the job done where Scherzer didn't, picking up the slack and pushing this series to a decisive Game 3.
Under 6.5
Runs will be tough to come by in this one. deGrom is the best pitcher in the world when he's right. Padres starter Blake Snell has a 3.38 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 128 innings this year.
Snell does have a 3.92 xFIP whereas deGrom has a 1.93 xFIP this year. deGrom's K% is 42% compared to Snell's 32% K%. Plus this game is at Citi Field, which is a pitcher's park.
Starling Marte 1+ Stolen Bases
Marte stole 18 bases this season after stealing 47 bases last year. He stole two bases in Game 1 of the series and I see no reason why he would stop running in Game 2. It's not like the Mets are scoring many runs these days so a Marte stolen base could help give the offense a spark.
Also, Marte is playing through a hand injury, which shows he'll do what he can to help the team and with a bad hand he could opt to rely on his legs.
