Twenty-two years ago, the Yankees beat the Mets 4-1 in the Subway World Series. Will we be seeing a clash of the two New York teams at the end of October this year? Bettors seem to believe so.
With MLB playoffs odds being released ahead of the Wild Card Round set to open up on Friday, the Yankees and Mets have been driving bettors to sportsbooks, particularly BetMGM.
At BetMGM, the Yankees and Mets are the biggest liabilities in the World Series market by a significant margin, and each have taken the most action in their pennant races as well.
The Yankees are currently +500 to win the World Series, but they account for 13.4% of the betting tickets and 16.8% of the money wagered in the market.
For the Mets, their number is +700 with a Wild Card Round ahead, and they have amassed 11.6% of the tickets and 13.3% of the handle.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are the title favorites at +300, and they account for 12.3% of the wagers and 16.0% of the money.
After the Dodgers are the Astros (+400) and Braves (+500) who clock in with 7-8% of the tickets.
As for the individual pennant markets, the Yankees have received more than 20% of the wagers and handle in the American League and now sit at a +210 price, just behind the Astros (+160).
Heading into wild-card weekend, the Blue Jays (+600), Mariners (+1000), Guardians (+1100) and Rays (+1100) are seen as heavy outsiders.
It's a similar story in the National League, where the Mets have totaled 19.5% of pennant tickets and account for over 20% of the handle at +400.
The Dodgers (+140) are the favorites with the Braves (+225), Cardinals (+900), Padres (+1200) and Phillies (+1500) behind.
Each of the Wild Card Round series' will get underway on Friday.
