We have a wide array of MLB games on the slate this Wednesday, and with them comes a staggering amount of player props. However, I've taken some of the load off your hands as I've pinpointed my top two player props, so let's find out who we're backing and how.
Our Action Labs Props Tool grades each prop on a scale from 1-10, so I'll be sure to include the grade for each of my betting recommendations in my discussions below.
Cristian Javier Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-135)
Astros @ Tigers | Astros -210 |
First Pitch: 1:10 pm ET | 1:10 p.m. ET |
Best Line | BetMGM |
Cristian Javier has had a breakout campaign for the Astros.
His electric stuff has made him one of the toughest righties to hit in the American League, and his numbers show it. Entering this afternoon, Javier has a strikeout rate among the top 10% of all qualified pitchers and a whiff rate in the top 20%. He averages 7.8 strikeouts per start and has gone over this total in 52% of his starts this season.
While that gives us implied odds of -110, the reason we should be willing to pay the extra juice on this total is because of how good the matchup is for him. The Tigers lineup has been abysmal all season long as they are near the bottom in nearly every offensive category, but what comes along with that is a high strikeout rate. Detroit enters this matchup with the fourth-highest team strikeout rate in all of baseball.
We've seen Javier flash double-digit strikeout potential — now he has a matchup in which we could see those kinds of numbers again.
Pick: Over 6.5 Strikeouts
Action Labs Grade: 8/10
Adam Wainwright Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+120)
Brewers @ Cardinals | Brewers -125 |
First Pitch | 7:45 p.m. ET |
Best Line | DraftKings |
We go from one team that has been striking out all season to another that has been striking out quite a bit of late. The Brewers are fighting for their postseason lives as they currently sit just a couple of games out of a wild card spot. However, they have not been helping themselves at the dish.
Milwaukee enters this matchup with the ninth-highest strikeout rate across the league over the past two weeks. Sitting at 24.8 percent, that's nearly three percent higher than the league average, and it gives us a window to capitalize on another strikeout total.
Adam Wainwright is certainly not a strikeout artist at this point in his career, but the market is not giving him enough respect in this matchup. We already touched on how much the Brewers have been striking out lately, and we've already seen him blow past this number in two of his three starts against them this year.
Overall, Wainwright has gone over this total in 53.6 percent of his starts this year, which gives us implied odds of -115 that he'll go over again. That is tremendous value at this price, and we have to take advantage.
Pick: Over 4.5 Strikeouts
Action Labs Grade: 10/10
