For my Tuesday MLB Player Props, I'm eyeing picks for Mike Trout, Hunter Brown and Teoscar Hernandez.

Last night, the Angels trailed the Rays, 1-0, entering the top of the eighth inning. Then Trout deposited a 420-foot, two-run home run over the left-field wall. The Angels would go on to win 7-3 to take Game 1 of this four-game series.

The Astros may be getting some reinforcements soon with Justin Verlander potentially making his season debut on Friday night. Their rotation could use the boost, as they own an ERA of 5.35 this season. Tonight, Hunter Brown will have a tough assignment against the Braves. The right-hander is coming off a disastrous outing in which he gave up nine runs and didn't get out of the first inning.

The Nationals shocked the baseball world last night with a 6-4 victory over the Dodgers, who were -400 on the moneyline. The Dodgers are heavily favored again tonight, which is not a surprise considering Patrick Corbin is starting for the Nationals. Teoscar Hernandez will be looking to do damage against him.

Mike Trout

Over 1.5 Total Bases (+125)

Mike Trout has lost time due to injuries over the last four seasons, as he played 100 games or more just once in that span. However, he's looking like the Mike Trout of old to begin this season.

Trout is tied for the Major League lead with seven home runs to go along with a double and two triples. Ten of his 18 hits have gone for extra bases, and many of them have come over the last week or so.

Trout has recorded two total bases in six of his past eight games and has hit four home runs in that span. Tonight, he's +330 at FanDuel if you'd like to back him for Dinger Tuesday.

Trout homered twice against the Rays in their three-game series in Anaheim last week. Including last night's game, he has homered in seven of his last 10 games against the Rays. As a result, he has also hit this line in eight of his past 10 games against Tampa Bay.

Tonight, he'll face right-handed Aaron Civale, who has a 2.12 ERA to begin this season. However, that didn't stop Trout from taking him deep in the first inning last Tuesday.

Trout is averaging 4.4 total bases in his last 10 games against the Rays and 3.5 total bases over his last eight games overall. Tonight, we just need him to get two at plus-money.

Pick: Mike Trout Over 1.5 Total Bases (+125)

Hunter Brown

Over 2.5 Earned Runs (-125)

Header Trailing Logo

Hunter Brown has made three starts against the Yankees, Rangers and Royals. The Yankees and Rangers were expected to be among the best offenses in baseball this season, but the Royals are also tied with the Rangers for the ninth-most scored in 2024.

Brown tossed four scoreless innings against the Yankees, but he has allowed 14 runs in his last two starts, including nine in Kansas City.

As a result, Brown's numbers — traditional or otherwise — have not been pretty. His ERA has ballooned to 16.43 in 7 2/3 innings. He has allowed a 55.3% hard-hit rate, a .385 xBA and a .531 xSLG. Additionally, right-handed hitters are 14-for-20 (.700) with two home runs and 11 runs batted in against him.

All of this comes before facing the Atlanta Braves.

Atlanta leads MLB with a .301 team batting average and ranks third in runs scored. The Braves are also heavy on right-handed hitters like Ronald Acuna Jr., Marcell Ozuna — who's currently on a 14-game hitting streak — and Austin Riley.

You'd typically expect Brown to struggle more against left-handed hitters, but they're hitting .346 against him. That would play into the hands of Matt Olson and the switch-hitting Ozzie Albies.

Now, despite his rough start, the sample size is still very small. Brown could work much deeper into this game tonight, but that would also give him more innings to allow earned runs. Five or six innings of three-run ball against this Braves lineup would be a solid start, but it would still go over this line.

Dating back to last season, Brown has allowed at least three earned runs in seven of his last 10 starts. Additionally, the Braves have scored at least three runs in 10 of their last 12 games.

Pick: Hunter Brown Over 2.5 Earned Runs (-125)

Teoscar Hernandez

Over 1.5 Total Bases (+105)

It hasn't taken Teoscar Hernandez long to assimilate to the Dodgers' lineup. He's hitting .288 with five home runs, 17 runs batted in and an .890 OPS.

He sits in the top 10 in MLB in both home runs and runs batted in while ranking in the 90th percentile in average exit velocity (92.9 mph) and 89th percentile in hard hit rate (52.2%).

Hernandez is a career .261 hitter, but his average goes up to .276 against left-handed pitchers, and his OPS (.884) is over 100 points higher against lefties as well. He's hitting .300 with two home runs and a .950 OPS against left-handers this season.

Last night, Hernandez went 1-for-3 against Nationals left-hander Mitchell Parker and then doubled off reliever Hunter Harvey in the eighth inning. Hernandez has now recorded two total bases in three of his last four games.

One left-hander he has not taken advantage of yet is Patrick Corbin (0-for-3), but I don't expect that to remain the case for long. Corbin has had an ERA over 5.20 in each of the last three seasons and comes into tonight's start with an 8.94 ERA and 1.94 WHIP.

Right-handed hitters are hitting .352 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs and a .537 slugging percentage against him. I expect Hernandez to join that group tonight.

If he singles off Corbin, he can collect another base with a hit off Washington's bullpen like he did last night. He's also +320 to hit a home run at BetMGM tonight.

Pick: Teoscar Hernandez Over 1.5 Total Bases (+105)
