  • Sports Insights' Bet Signals have recorded multiple instances of sharp action on two Friday MLB games: Astros vs. Padres and A's vs. Angels.
  • Which sides are the pros betting for Friday evening's MLB slate? Read on to find out.
  • Below, you'll find updated odds, line movement, and betting market analysis for Houston vs. San Diego and Oakland vs. Los Angeles.

Friday night's slate of baseball gets underway at 6:05 p.m. ET, with an NL East battle between the Marlins and Nationals. And while the majority of tonight's games come in the 1-2 hours following that, it's not until we hit the West Coast matchups that we see the biggest moves from sharp bettors.

Both Astros-Padres and Angels-A's have been met with some action from the pros, and it's come in almost identical fashion in each case.

In a meeting of two streaking teams — Houston has won eight straight and San Diego is on a four-game tear of its own — the streakier one opened as a slight favorite tonight. You wouldn't know it based on the current line, though.

Early books set the opening line near a Pick'em, with the Astros around -110 favorites and most bettors have taken that side since. But even with 62% of moneyline tickets landing on the 'Stros, they're now up to +114 as the market has flipped.

Part of the reason for that is while Houston has had the clear edge in tickets, San Diego is dominating that actual money split. At the time of writing, 91% of of the loot is landing on the Padres.

Of course, that's going to catch a sports book's attention as a monetary liability, but also serves as an indication of how sharps are betting the game since they're likely the ones making the biggest bets.

Sure enough, Sports Insights Bet Signals — triggered by instances of market movement caused by sharp action — have tracked three waves of smart money hitting the Padres (most recently at -121), getting the market to its current number.

A's vs. Angels Odds, Sharp Action

I could almost copy and paste the above breakdown here.

In this case, it's the A's who opened as favorites and have attracted the majority of bettors (64%), but once again the line has flipped, now listing the unpopular side as the more likely winner.

The 36% of bets on the Angels have generated 54% of the money, which is obviously less of a monetary concern for sportsbooks, but still hints at the opinions of bigger, sharper players.

Tack on another four SI Bet Signals revealing sharp action on the Angels — most recently at -115 — and it becomes clear why oddsmakers were convinced to move this line.
