On Monday, we travel to Oracle Park to find value in an NRFI between two American League teams: the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres.
The Giants will send out their big offseason acquisition in Carlos Rodon. Coming into Monday's game, Rodon is 21-3 to the NRFI with an excellent 10-1 home NRFI split. When facing hitters the first time through the lineup Rodon has allowed only a .207 average.
Rodon has performed well in the past against these Padres hitters:
- Manny Machado: 4-for-15
- Ha-Seong Kim: 0-for-5
- Jake Croneworth: 0-for-7
- Brandon Drury: 1-for-5
Jurickson Profar and Brandon Drury are both struggling at the plate, going 3-for-20 and hitting well under .200.
Surprisingly, the Padres, despite having possibly the best Nos. 1-4 in baseball, haven’t been the best YRFI team on the road this year. They have achieved the NRFI on the road 79% of the time in 2022 and are currently riding a 7-3 NRFI streak.
The Padres will counter with Mike Clevinger. Coming into today Clevinger is 13-2 to the NRFI with a 7-2 road NRFI split. When facing hitters the first time through the lineup, he has excelled, allowing only a .192 average.
Here are some of Clevinger's best matchups today:
- Brandon Crawford: 1-for-5
- Lamonte Wade Jr.: 1-for-5
- Evan Longoria: 0-for-4
- Mike Yastrzemski: 0-for-2
Lamonte Wade and Wilmer Flores are in severe slumps, hitting well under .130:
- Lamonte Wade: 1-for-15
- Wilmer Flores: 2-for-19
The month of August has been a first-inning nightmare for the Giants. They rank 29th in baseball with a lousy .179 first-inning average while managing only 15 hits in 96 plate appearances.
Bet on these two proficient NRFI pitchers to have a collective shutout first inning. Take the NRFI between the Padres and the Giants.
As always, six outs to glory.
