Orioles vs. Yankees — No Runs First Inning (-125)
Matchup | Orioles (Lyles) vs. Yankees (Cole) |
First Pitch | 7:05 p.m. ET |
Best Line | DraftKings |
On Monday, we will be looking at an NRFI between two American League division rivals.
Gerrit Cole is 6-2 to the NRFI in 2022. In 38 first inning batters faced, he has only allowed four walks paired with 12 strikeouts. Cole's true NRFI potential comes when he is a large favorite. When the line is steeper than -180, Cole is 16-2 to the NRFI since the 2020 season.
Also since 2020, Cole is 5-1 to NRFI against the Orioles specifically. Here is how he has fared in some of the matchups:
- Trey Mancini: 2-for-12
- Ryan Mountcastle: 3-for-11
- Cedric Mullins: 4-for-15
- Anthony Santander: 2-for-14
Since May 2nd, the Orioles are the 29th-ranked first inning road hitting team, going just 3-for-21. In the last seven days, leadoff hitter Mullins is hitting just .185.
Jordan Lyles is having a terrific start to his 2022 NRFI campaign, going 7-1. In 32 first inning batters faced, Lyles is holding hitters to a .207 average and has only issued two walks. Lyles is holding No. 1 and No. 2 hitters to only .158 and .174 averages, respectively, which is translating to NRFI success.
Surprisingly, the Yankees in the month of May are the worst first inning home hitting team in baseball, with just one hit in 23 plate appearances. A main contributor to that is leadoff hitter DJ LeMahieu. In just his last seven days, he has gone 4-for-26.
Pair this month's 30th-ranked home first inning hitting team with this month's 29th-ranked road first inning hitting team, and it all adds up to great NRFI value between the Orioles and Yankees.
As always, six outs to glory…
