Mets vs Athletics Prediction, Parlay

  • Over 9.5 (Play to 10)
  • Francisco Lindor Over 1.5 Total Bases
  • JP Sears Under 4.5 Strikeouts
  • Parlay Odds: +425 (BetMGM)

If you are trying to compile a same-game parlay for tonight's game, these picks are worth adding. Francisco Lindor has little experience against Sears, but is 3-for-6 with a homer over his career.

He is typically a slow starter, but has gotten off to a much stronger start in 2025. It's an outstanding matchup for Lindor, and the park dimensions bolster it even further.

I also love Sears' under on his strikeouts. The Mets don't often strikeout and actually have the third-fewest strikeouts in baseball.

Despite a mediocre start to the year, Sears' strikeout rate is only 17%, well below average. Tonight, he has a brutal matchup, so if he gets into trouble, he could exit the game early.

Mets vs Athletics Projected Starting Pitchers

John Feltman’s Mets vs Athletics Preview

The New York Mets have won six of their past seven games and are hitting the West Coast for their upcoming road trip. The A's have been a scrappy team to begin the season and are coming off a victory over the San Diego Padres

For those unaware, the A's no longer play at the Oakland Coliseum and are currently playing at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, California.

That is a Triple-A stadium, so its dimensions are prominently known as hitter-friendly. The A's will send J.P. Sears to the mound to take on Griffin Canning.

Oddsmakers have the A's as short +115 underdogs on the money line, and the total is set at 9.5. Below is my best bet and full preview for tonight's game between the New York Mets and the Athletics.

Mets vs Athletics Prediction, Betting Analysis

It's a tough handicap to figure out who will most likely win tonight's ballgame, but I see a lot of value in the total. It is an excellent opportunity to take an over, especially since the Marlins blanked the Mets on Wednesday.

Griffin Canning practically served up batting practice whenever he took the mound in 2024, finishing the season with a 5.19 ERA. His overall metrics were extremely ugly, as he allowed plenty of hard contact and free passes.

Canning only sported 17.5% K and a 41% ground-ball rate, with most of the hard contact flying through the air, which will pose many issues in this park.

This is a premium matchup for the A's lineup, most of which has seen Canning in the past. They've hit .255 off of him in 47 plate appearances.

I also love the Mets' matchup against Sears, who is off to a decent start in 2025, but his numbers are unsustainable.

In 2024, Sears struggled to miss bats and only had a 38% ground-ball rate. He had an 18% K rate, but did a solid job limiting the free passes.

Opposing hitters had a 10% barrel rate and he allowed a 40% hard-hit rate, which is well above the major league average. He has generated more ground balls to begin the year and his walks remain low, but I still have concerns against a potent Mets offense.

Mets hitters have a .281 average against Sears and are full of powerful right-handed bats that could do severe damage. Sears is still allowing too much hard contact for my liking and the ballpark dimensions will not do him any favors tonight.

I love the matchups for both offenses and expect them to have a lot of success.

Pick: Over 9.5 (Play to 10)
