Taijuan Walker had a brutal 2024—7.10 ERA, .317 BAA, 24 HRs in 83.2 IP. Rockies know how to hit him: .400 AVG in 35 ABs. McMahon (.333), Moniak (.667) with strong history. Phillies hot, but Walker’s a liability. Coors-style ballpark boosts bats. Walkers’s 13.4% barrel rate last year—borderline worst in MLB Senzatela opened 2025 with 4.1 scoreless innings vs Rays—9 hits, but no damage. Pitch-to-contact arm fits vs patient lineups. He’s fresh after rehab, and Phillies don’t see him often. Rockies motivated to avoid the sweep, and Philly may ease up in early getaway spot. Rockies offense due to wake up—just 2.0 runs/game so far, but Goodman, Doyle heating up. Philly bullpen hasn’t been tested much yet. Even if it gets dicey, 1.5 gives us room to work with.

Like I said, Walker’s ERA was 7.10 last year – gave up 24 HRs in 83.2 IP. Opp BA .317, bottom 5 in MLB. Stuff flattened, command faded. Rockies batting .400 w/ 1.019 OPS in 35 AB vs him. Citizens Bank = 9th in HR factor. Warm day game? Ball’s gonna carry. Colorado offense better than it looks – top half NL in hard-hit rate last year. Goodman hot early (.368 AVG, 2 HR), McMahon crushes Walker. Philly’s pen untested this series. Walker gives them a real shot to break out. Phillies lineup locked in – Sosa .714 this series, Schwarber 3 HRs already. Rockies pen 6.19 ERA this week, control issues showing. If Walker’s still shaky, this explodes. Both sides have pop – this number’s too low.

Philadelphia Phillies 2025 Season Preview

The Philadelphia Phillies once again have World Series hopes with the majority of their excellent squad back. The Phillies racked up 95 wins and captured the NL East last season before losing to the rival Mets in the NLDS.

The Phillies are a veteran club and that presents injury concerns. Yet, if they're able to stay healthy this is without a doubt a team that can win it all.

The Phillies have arguably the best pitching rotation anchored by Zach Wheeler and Aaron Nola. Lefties Ranger Suárez, Cristopher Sánchez and Jesús Luzardo are all steady options as well.

The reliable bullpen will ensure most leads won't get wasted. Jordan Romano, Matt Strahm, José Alvarado, and Orion Kerkering will provide solid support for the starters.

Offensively, the Phillies remain explosive. Powerful hitters include Nick Castellanos, J.T. Realmuto, Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, and Bryce Harper. Each of these players can shift the momentum of a game with a single flick of the wrist.

The Phillies are in a stacked division alonside the Mets and Braves but you can certainly count on them being in the postseason mix come October.

Betting on the Philadelphia Phillies

Phillies Spread (Run Line)

When betting on baseball, you’ll be faced with three standard options: the moneyline, over/under and run line.

The run line is a bet on the margin of victory, like a point spread. But because baseball is low scoring, the spread will almost always be -1.5 for the favorite and +1.5 for the underdog. The payouts for each will just be adjusted based on each team’s strength.

Here’s a brief example of a run line for a hypothetical Phillies game:

  • San Francisco Giants (+1.5)
  • Philadelphia Phillies (-1.5)

As shown above, the Phillies are favored by 1.5 runs against the Giants; the minus sign (-) indicates Philly is the favorite, while a plus sign (+) is used to denote the underdog. Bettors who wanted to back Philadelphia here would be “laying” those 1.5 runs, meaning for their bets to cash the Phillies would need to win by two runs or more. Bettors who selected the Giants +1.5 would win if San Francisco won outright or kept a loss to 1 run.

Phillies Moneylines

Many first time bettors are wary of run line bets, especially when riding with the hometown team. In that case, moneyline wagers are often seen as the safer way to go. A moneyline bet is a bet on who wins the game -- no run line involved.

Let’s use the same example from before to understand the moneyline better:

  • San Francisco Giants +150
  • Philadelphia Phillies -180

Just as with run lines, the minus sign (-) signifies a team is favored, while the plus sign (+) means a team is the underdog. The moneyline odds, written in American odds format here, indicate how big or small a favorite that team is, written in increments of $100. For example, to win $100 on the Phillies, a bettor would need to risk $180. On the flip side, a $100 bet on the Giants would net $150 if they pulled the upset.

Odds can differ from sportsbook to sportsbook, so always make sure you shop for the best line with The Action Network app.

Phillies Over/Unders

Betting on a team to win or cover a run line isn’t the only type of wager allowed on MLB games. Almost all sportsbooks will offer a total on the game, also known as an over/under. This bet is not on the winner of the contest, but on the number of runs the two teams will combine to score; sportsbooks hang a number, and bettors can wager either over or under that total.

If the number for our hypothetical Phillies-Giants matchup was 8 runs, over bettors would require 9 points or more to cash their tickets, while those who bet the under would need 7 or fewer runs. If the two teams scored exactly 8 runs between them, that bet would push and all wagers would be refunded.

Phillies Props

Some bettors find more entertainment and success betting on more specific outcomes than the result of the game. Prop bets cover a wide market of wagers on player stats, discrete in-game events, and any style of yes/no question. Many props are bets on specific players and their performance, such as betting Bryce Harper over 1.5 hits on a given night, or betting that Zack Wheeler will strike out over 9.5 batters. Some props can be shorter term, such as betting on the number of runs scored in the first five innings or who will hit a home run. Offerings tend to vary depending on the sportsbook, so use our sportsbook reviews to find the best bet for you.

Phillies Futures

Bettors should shop for the best line to get good odds on Phillies futures bets. Futures are bets that focus on long term outcomes, like the Phillies to win the NL East, win the National League Pennant, win the World Series, or even individual awards like winning league MVP.
