Despite being without star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. this season, the San Diego Padres are 25-14 this season and occupy second place in the National League West division. The San Francisco Giants won the division last year, but they  come in at 22-16 and sit in third place in the division.

Both teams will turn to their ace pitchers in this matchup with Joe Musgrove taking on Carlos Rodon here. Which one will get the job done? Let's dig into both sides and find out.

Padres Hitters Face Bad Matchup

Rodon should have the edge here at home against San Diego.

Manny Machado is the only hitter in the Padres lineup with an ISO above .200 against left-handed pitching since the beginning of last year. San Diego’s lineup is mostly right-handed and Rodon has allowed just a .128 ISO to right-handed batters since the beginning of last year.

Five hitters in the Padres lineup have at least a 20% strikeout percentage against left-handed pitching this year and Rodon has a 36% strikeout percentage this year.

Giants Can Get to Joe Musgrove

Joe Musgrove has a 2.20 ERA in seven starts this season, but he'll have his work cut out for him here against a Giants team that is third in the league in runs scored so far this season with 196.

The Giants lineup is certainly more imposing against right-handed pitching given the presence of Brandon Belt, Joc Pederson, and Brandon Crawford in the lineup.

Another left-handed bat second baseman Tommy La Stella also recently returned to the lineup after a delayed start to the season as he recovered from an Achilles tear.

Padres-Giants Pick

I like the Giants here. Rodon is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball and I expect him to continue to show it, especially against a lineup without much power in it against left-handed pitching.

The Giants lineup is better against right-handed pitching and San Francisco is at home here as well. I'll take the Giants money line at -150 at BetMGM

Pick: Giants ML -150
