The New YorkYankees welcome the Tampa Bay Rays to the Bronx, as the teams square off in an AL East showdown.
The Rays look to make up some ground on the AL East-leading Yankees, but New York looks pretty unstoppable as of late. The Yankees are 9-1 over their last 10 games while the Rays are 6-4 over their last 10 games.
Corey Kluber will take the mound for the Rays against the Yankees' Gerrit Cole. Cole looks to rebound from his worst start to the season while Kluber looks to continue his steady 2022 campaign.
Rays Missing Two Key Bats
The Rays have been dealing with a rash of injuries, as they're still without Brandon Lowe and Wander Franco. They've made due with a middle infield of Vidal Brujan, Isaac Paredes and Taylor Walls, but that doesn't approach the type of production they typically get up the middle.
With the absence of those two bats, the Rays' offense has suffered. Over the past three weeks, the Rays have the third-worst team wRC+ in MLB against RHP on the road, and they're facing a premier RHP on Tuesday.
Kluber has put together a solid 2022 season, but he's been much more vulnerable on the road. Over 23 road innings, Kluber has a 5.09 ERA with a 4.27 FIP.
The Rays' pen has also found a groove recently, as they're among the league leaders in FIP and ERA over the past three weeks.
Overall, the pitching is not much of a concern, but it's probably going to take more than below average offense and adequate starting pitching to beat the Yankees right now.
Hot Offense + Cole at Home = Success
The Yankees continue to be one of the hottest offenses in baseball, especially at home. They have the second-highest team wRC+ in MLB at home against RHP. After some early-season home struggles, the Yankees have really begun to gel, and it's scary to watch.
Cole also loves pitching in the Bronx. So far this season, he has a 2.87 ERA and a 2.71 FIP at home. Considering the Rays' struggles against RHP on the road, Cole seems to be well positioned to deliver a high-caliber start.
Despite some key injuries, the Yankees' bullpen has been just as good or better than the Rays' pen in some instances.
Rays-Yankees Pick
This Yankees seem to have found their stride in May, and they haven't broken their stride in June. As the Rays' depth has been challenged by injuries, the Yankees' depth has proven to be much better.
The odds on Yankees moneyline is beyond the -220 threshold already, so the runline seems to be the only logical play with any value. Considering the starting pitching matchup and the scorching heat radiating from the Yankees, it's hard to not back them.
Take the runline unless it's -2.5.
Pick: Yankees RL -1.5 (-105)
