The Rockies are 3-7 over their past 10 games and 15-41 on the road this season. Meanwhile, the Angels are 6-4 over their past 10 games and are 24-33 at home this season. Still, Colorado is only a slight underdog in Thursday's rubber match at Angel Stadium as Ryan Feltner (4.99 ERA over 115 1/3 IP) will be opposed by Carson Fulmer (3.77 ERA over 57 1/3 IP).

Let's dig into the matchup and get to my Rockies vs. Angels pick below.

Los Angeles Angels

Feltner has quietly been pitching well over a meaningful sample of innings. Over his past 50 2/3 innings (nine starts), Feltner has pitched to a 3.48 ERA with a strong 3.91 xFIP. He's fanned 8.88 batters per nine nine innings over that span and has yielded a 36% hard-hit rate

Based on Feltner's career marks and his 98 Stuff+ rating and 100 Pitching+ rating, he's likely pitching a little above what can be expected. Still, Feltner is clearly better than his 4.99 ERA suggests.

The Rockies hit right-handed pitching quite well in July. They held an 11th-ranked wRC+ (112) and an OPS of .812. Additionally, their 36.5% hard-hit rate in that span ranked second in MLB.

Colorado Rockies

Feltner will have a chance to continue his strong stretch against an Angels' lineup that has continued to struggle versus right-handed pitching. Over the past month, Los Angeles owns the 28th-ranked wRC+ (85) against righties and has just a 29.2% hard-hit rate.

It was speculated that teams weren't interested in Luis Rengifo at the trade deadline because of a lingering wrist injury, and those speculations now look accurate after he left Wednesday night's game with a wrist injury. He'll remain in the dugout for this matchup.

Fulmer has overachieved preseason expectations with a 3.77 ERA, but could be a pitcher to sell moving forward. He holds a 4.17 xERA and a 4.59 xFIP, as well as a Pitching+ rating of 98. He has been tasked with taking on more innings as a starter recently and has pitched to a 4.00 ERA with a 4.16 xFIP over those four starts.

Betting Pick & Prediction

The Rockies seem to have a better chance at winning this matchup than oddsmakers are suggesting. Feltner has posted solid underlying metrics lately and has been close to league average away from Coors Field this season.

At anything better than -105, there's value in backing the Rockies to grab a rare series win on the road.
