Shohei Ohtani will start in Game 3 of the World Series despite an injured shoulder, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told ESPN on Sunday.
Ohtani, who opened the World Series as the betting favorite to win MVP, suffered a left shoulder subluxation while attempting to steal second base against the Yankees during the seventh inning of Saturday’s Game 2. Ohtani did not return to the game, but Roberts told reporters after the contest that initial tests were encouraging.
On Sunday, Roberts told ESPN's Karl Ravech that Ohtani is “in a great spot,” adding that the NL MVP candidate “will be playing in Game 3 tomorrow.”
The Dodgers have a 2-0 lead in the World Series and held -240 odds to win the title at DraftKings Sportsbook after Saturday’s win. Los Angeles’ odds have improved to -425 as of Sunday afternoon at DraftKings.
The Yankees will host the next two games (three, if necessary), with +330 odds of becoming the first team since the 1996 Yankees to come back and win the World Series after losing the first two games.
