Winners of five of their last six, the Boston Red Sox host the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, April 8. First pitch from Fenway Park is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. ET; the game will be broadcast on NESN and Sportsnet.
Boston's five-game winning streak was snapped by the Blue Jays in the Monday series opener. The Red Sox will try to get back on track with ace Garrett Crochet on the hill — opposing him will be fellow southpaw Easton Lucas.

Tony Sartori's Blue Jays vs Red Sox Preview
The Toronto Blue Jays shuffled their rotation this week and plan to start left-hander Easton Lucas in this matchup. Lucas was nearly flawless in his first career start last week, tossing five shutout innings while allowing only one hit.
Toronto won that game 4-2, and another low-scoring affair is likely Tuesday.
The southpaw’s underlying metrics from that performance suggest sustained success could follow. Lucas ranks in the 80th percentile or higher in expected ERA (xERA), expected batting average (xBA), average exit velocity, and hard-hit rate.
Following Lucas is a trustworthy bullpen. Entering this matchup, the Blue Jays’ relief staff ranks in the top half of the league in both expected fielding independent pitching (xFIP) and wins above replacement (WAR).
Speaking of strong bullpens, the Boston Red Sox also possess a dependable relief staff. This season, Boston’s bullpen ranks in the top 10 in ERA, FIP, and WAR.
However, this bullpen may not be needed until late, as left-hander Garrett Crochet is slated to take the mound for the Red Sox. The former 11th overall draft pick has been brilliant since joining MLB, posting an ERA below 3.60 in each of his first four seasons.
That success has continued into 2025. Through his first two starts this season, Crochet is 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA and 0.92 WHIP.
His analytics suggest continued success, as Crochet ranks in the 65th percentile or higher in xERA, xBA, and hard-hit rate. Furthermore, he is 2-0 through three career appearances against Toronto with a spotless 0.00 ERA.
Blue Jays vs Red Sox Prediction, Betting Analysis
Given the starting pitching matchup and strong bullpens, the under is the play in this game. Additionally, neither lineup has fared well against the projected starters.
Through seven combined plate appearances against Lucas, the current Boston roster has a .167 batting average and a .278 weighted on-base average (wOBA). On the other hand, the current Toronto roster has posted a fade-worthy .059 batting average and .052 wOBA through 17 combined plate appearances against Crochet.
There were only five total runs scored in Crochet’s last start against the Blue Jays, and a similar result is likely Tuesday.
Pick: Under 8 (-120 | Play to -125)
Moneyline
I lean toward Boston but don't want to lay -198 against Lucas.
Run Line (Spread)
I like the Red Sox to cover, but I don't want to be on them for the same reason listed above.
Over/Under
As mentioned, I'm betting Under 8 at -120.
