Two teams right in the thick of the Wild Card race in their respective league begin a three-game series at Citi Field as the New York Mets look to get on track against the Minnesota Twins.

The Mets dropped the final two contests of their four-game set with the Braves, while the Twins grabbed two of three in Detroit this past weekend from the Tigers.

Unfortunately for Minnesota, it didn't gain any ground on the AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians, who won two of three in Philadelphia to own a 4 1/2-game edge over the Twins heading into today.

Let's break down the latest MLB odds and get to my Twins vs Mets prediction for Monday, July 29.

Minnesota Twins

The Twins seek consecutive road wins for the first time since late June in Seattle as Minnesota is fresh off a 5-0 shutout of Detroit on Sunday.

Bailey Ober struck out 11 batters in eight innings as fellow right-hander Simeon Woods-Richardson heads to the mound in Monday's series opener.

Woods-Richardson was a second-round selection by the Mets in 2018 but never appeared in a game for New York as he was traded to Toronto. Following a deal that sent him to Minnesota in 2022, Woods-Richardson has been a vital part of the Twins' rotation this season.

In 2024, Woods-Richardson has posted 17 starts and put together a 3.27 ERA, although his WHIP and opponents' OBP is slightly higher on the road than at Target Field.

Woods-Richardson held his own opposite Philadelphia ace Zack Wheeler in his last start, a 3-0 home defeat to the Phillies. The Minnesota hurler tossed six scoreless innings and scattered three hits, but the Phillies scratched across three runs in the ninth inning for the victory.

The Twins have compiled an impressive 4-1 record in Woods-Richardson's last five road starts, including wins over the Giants, Diamondbacks, and Astros in this stretch.

Minnesota is in the midst of a 5-0-2 first five innings run, while the Twins own an 8-0-4 record in the first five innings in the last 12 games when scoring at least one run in the opening five frames.

New York Mets

The Mets entered Saturday's action against the Braves on a 13-4 hot streak but lost the final two games to Atlanta by a combined score of 13-2.

New York is riding a 7-1 stretch in the past eight home series openers as Jose Quintana looks to capitalize off a win over the Yankees in his last outing.

Quintana struck out six batters and allowed three hits in five innings in the Bronx in a 3-2 triumph as +135 underdogs. The Mets have won six of the southpaw's previous eight starts overall, including a 3-1 mark at Citi Field.

The left-hander was roughed up in his last trip to the mound in Flushing before the All-Star break by allowing four home runs to the Rockies in an 8-5 setback as a -180 favorite. The Twins went deep five times in their weekend series against the Tigers, as two of those homers came against left-handers.

The Mets own a 6-5 home record against American League opponents this season, as three of those teams possess a winning record (Royals, Yankees, Astros).

Betting Pick & Prediction

Woods-Richardson will definitely be motivated to face the team that drafted him then traded him before getting an opportunity to pitch for them on the highest level.

However, it's hard to see Woods-Richardson duplicate his effort from his last start against Philadelphia, especially facing a Mets' team that is looking to get on track after back-to-back losses.

Let's back the Mets here as a short favorite to improve to 8-1 in the last nine home series openers.

Pick: Mets ML (-115) | Play to (-135)
