Steph Curry has accomplished more in his 10-year NBA career than most players can dream about in a lifetime: three championship rings, two regular season MVP awards, six All-Star Game appearances, one scoring title and, oh yeah, single-handedly changed the way the game of basketball is played.
But believe it or not, Curry has never won an NBA Finals MVP award.
According to the latest betting odds, that is expected to change very soon.
Following the Warriors's pivotal 109-104 Game 2 victory on Sunday (which evened the series at one game apiece), FanDuel Sportsbook updated its Finals MVP odds, with Curry listed as a -125 favorite.
Here are the latest NBA Finals MVP odds as of June 3:
NBA Finals MVP Odds
- Steph Curry (-125)
- Kawhi Leonard (+234)
- Draymond Green (+350)
- Klay Thompson (+2300)
- Kevin Durant (+3000)
- Pascal Siakam (+5000)
- Kyle Lowry (+15000)
It's interesting to note that the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook opened Curry as a -140 favorite right before the NBA Finals started.
FanDuel's -125 odds provide sneaky, under-the-radar value for bettors, especially with the field appearing to clear for Curry. Kevin Durant, who has won the past two NBA Finals MVPs, remains out with a calf injury. Even if KD lit it up in his return, he likely wouldn't accrue enough game action to warrant winning the award.
Leonard continues to shine and has the second-best odds at +234, but the Warriors are now -290 favorites (74.4% implied probability) to win the series at FanDuel (with the Raptors +230 underdogs).
With Golden State expected to hoist the title, the MVP is all but guaranteed to hail from the winning team. That would narrow it down to Curry or a longer shot pick like Draymond Green.
Green's MVP odds have steadily improved throughout the series. He opened at +1000 at Westgate and now has the third-best odds at FanDuel (+350). That represents an implied probability increase from 9.1% to 22.2%.
Klay Thompson has the fourth-best odds at +2300, but he has dipped from his opener of +1400. Thompson left Game 2 early with a hamstring injury, which will likely limit his game the rest of the way and take him out of the MVP running.
