Bradley Beal fell just short to Stephen Curry for the 2021 NBA scoring title, but the current Washington Wizards guard is the betting favorite to get it done next season.
According to odds released this week at DraftKings, Beal (+250) is ahead of Curry (+500) as the favorite to lead NBA in scoring next season. Curry won the honor in 2021 by averaging 32 points per game; Beal was second at 31.3 points per contest.
The two were a tier ahead the rest of the league, as Damian Lillard was almost two points per game behind at 28.8 this past season.
In theory, the return of Klay Thompson and possible additions to the team through either a trade of James Wiseman and draft picks — or the actual selection of impact rookies — could cut into Curry's shot attempts.
Meanwhile, the Wizards don't have as many mouths to feed with Beal and Russell Westbrook carrying most of the load.
And, of course, there's the chance Beal is traded.
Lillard (+675) is fourth on the board behind Beal, Curry and Luka Dončić at +500 odds. Dame scored 30 points per game during the 2019-20 campaign, but that wasn't enough to top scoring leader James Harden's 34.3 points per game. Dončić was sixth in points per game this season.
Harden joins Brooklyn teammates Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving further down the oddsboard. Durant has the best odds of the three at +3000, followed by Irving (+4500) and Harden (+6000) on the list. Irving was ninth in scoring this season with 26.9 points in 54 games. Only Joel Embiid (+750 odds) played in fewer games than Irving out of those in the top 10 in scoring.
Zion Williamson (+950) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (+1000) are the only other players 10-1 or better before a big drop off to Trae Young at +2500 odds.
