Bucks vs. Spurs Preview

After securing a split in Paris against the Pacers, the Spurs returned to action on Wednesday in a 128-116 loss to the Bucks. Their homestand continues tonight against the Bucks. That also means this will be the third matchup between superstars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Victor Wembanyama.

The Bucks will continue on their road trip and they are 1-2 after losing to Portland during Damian Lillard's second visit against his former team. Thus far, the Bucks have struggled to get stops on this trip, as they are allowing 120.6 points through the first three games. However, over their last 15 games, they are sixth in defensive rating. In that span, they are also ninth in offensive rating and third in net rating.

As you would expect, Antetokounmpo and Lillard have led the way, and both will be heading back to the All-Star Game. Antetokounmpo ranks top 10 in the NBA in scoring (31.7 PPG), rebounding (12.2 RPG), and field goal percentage (60.8%) this season. He has had at least 35 points and 12 rebounds in every game on this road trip thus far.

Meanwhile, Lillard has averaged 18 points in two games against Portland this month but has been on a tear against everyone else. In his other 12 games in January, Lillard has averaged 26.7 points and 6.8 assists per game. The Spurs are eighth in points allowed to point guards this season, but Lillard has scored 25 points in each of his last five games against them.

Like Lillard, Chris Paul faced his former team on Wednesday with seven points and seven assists against the Clippers. However, he may be in for a big game, considering Milwaukee allows 26.4 points (30th) and 8.9 assists to point guards this season. Paul had 18 points and seven assists in the first meeting.

Jeremy Sochan did not play in that game but has had at least six rebounds in four career games against Milwaukee. He will be needed to hit the glass again if Wembanyama is pulled away from the basket defending Brook Lopez. The Bucks are also 24th in rebounds allowed this season.

Bucks vs. Spurs Prediction

The Bucks have won five of the last seven meetings against the Spurs, and all five wins have been by four points or more. They have also been the better team of late, winning seven of their last 10 games. Meanwhile, San Antonio has both lost and failed to cover in eight of their last 10 games. I am going with Antetokounmpo and Lillard to lead the Bucks to another victory, coming off a few days' rest.

As mentioned, Antetokounmpo has come into this game on a tear. He has recorded 40 points and rebounds in five of his last six games overall and four of his last five games against San Antonio. The Spurs are also 25th in rebounds allowed this season.

Chris Paul has had 11 points in four of his last five games against the Bucks and seven assists in all of them. That should help him clear his line of 17.5 points + assists tonight. I am also going with Lillard for 25 points and Sochan for six rebounds, as they have often cleared these lines in this matchup.

Best Bet: Bucks -2.5 (-110)
