Hornets vs. Warriors Preview

Charlotte has been the worst offense in the league this month, averaging just 100.5 PPG. They're dead last in February offensive rating (102.7) by a significant margin. Miami is 29th at 106.9. The Hornets have scored exactly 88 points in each of their last 2 games, losing by a combined 95 points.

It's been a challenging travel schedule this month, particularly coming out of the All-Star Break. Charlotte has played 4 straight road games since the layoff. This is a back-to-back and their 3rd game in the last 4 days. It's fair to wonder whether key players might sit out tonight.

LaMelo Ball has suited up in each of the last two games but has battled ankle injuries for the past month. He's shot a dreadful 4 for 23 from the field in the two recent blowouts.

The books don't have props up yet for Ball, which is a bit curious. If he's limited or out tonight, this line might slip under 100.

Golden State is top 10 in defensive rating and points allowed this season. They've been even better with Jimmy Butler in the mix. The Warriors have an elite 107.4 defensive rating with Butler on the floor. They also played much slower with him in the game.

The sample size is only 190 minutes, but it makes sense that an engaged Butler would have a significant impact on both ends.

The Warriors have a huge rest advantage, having played just 2 games since the All-Star Break. They opened with a road game in Sacramento on Friday before facing Dallas at home on Sunday. They had Monday off and should be fresh tonight.

Best Bet: Hornets Team Total Under 101.5

Hornets vs. Warriors Prediction

By Stephen Nover

Charlotte had quite an encore after losing, 141-88, to the Trail Blazers this past Saturday. The Hornets followed up that 53-point loss with a 42-point loss to the Kings on Monday night.

This makes the Hornets just about untouchable. The oddsmaker knows that. It's why the home Warriors, a mediocre team, are such a huge favorite against Charlotte today. It's a clear buy-low spot on the Hornets at a very inflated point spread.

Golden State is a below-average offensive team that is fat and happy right now coming off the All-Star break to defeat the Mavericks and Kings in blowout fashion.

The Warriors embark on a five-game road trip following this matchup. So not only are the Warriors in letdown mode, but they may not have their full concentration. The Warriors are a far from dominant home team with a 16-13 mark.

It's rare in the NBA to find a team getting annihilated three consecutive times. Charlotte is 12-6 ATS (67%) as a double-digit 'dog this season.

The Hornets rank 13th defensively and are No. 3 in defensive 3-point shooting percentage. Charlotte had given up an average of only 102 points in its last four games prior to its current three-game losing streak.

Sacramento played one of its best games of the season in beating Charlotte last night. The Hornets are 6-1 ATS the past seven times when playing without rest.

Pick: Hornets +16.5 (-110)
