Spread
The spread for this game opened with the home Suns being slight 1-point favorites, and the line has flipped to where the Clippers are now short road favorites.
While the line movement tells where the sharp side may be developing for this game, the movement through the -1s is relatively insignificant in the NBA. One is not even a top 10 most common outcome in the NBA and occurs less than 4% of the time.
I do agree the Clippers should be slight favorites and would be the best bet for this game, but the Suns' recent addition of Nick Richards has paid dividends for Phoenix.
However, Phoenix is going up against an elite old-school big in Ivica Zubac, which likely neutralizes Richards' impact. While I like the Clips, the spread is not the play.
Moneyline
My best bet for this game is on the Clippers moneyline at -105.
We have signals as to the direction, and value of the line on the ML angle. With the -1s hanging around the market between -110 or greater on the L.A. side, the -105 on the ML represents the best value.
The difference between -1 and an ML is worth just over 5 cents, and therefore it is worth it to play the -104 price on the moneyline.
This is one of the lone examples I forego making bets into both spread and moneyline markets, and just play the ML.
Over/Under
The total for this game has gone up a point or two since the open, but primarily because we got the injury report for the Clippers to be quite clear. The price now at 223 is completely fair and a bit difficult to derive an edge from.
The Clippers play slow but efficiently, the Suns play fast but take a lot of mid-range 2s and don't play into heavy analytically motivated offense.
Both teams have undergone some recent changes with Kawhi Leonard returning and the Suns acquiring Richards and moving Bradley Beal to the bench. Those impacts become slightly more difficult to attribute to pace and totals than they are on spreads and moneylines.
