The Phoenix Suns are still the betting favorite to retain star big Deandre Ayton in the upcoming free agency.
Their odds have increased steadily since the NBA Draft last week, moving from a high of +350 to a current mark of +130 that he stays in Phoenix.
A surprise contender are the Nets, who in response to rumors that Kyrie Irving may be out the door, have seen their odds move from a high of +6000 two weeks ago to their current mark of +250.
Those odds have increased not due to Irving — but due to Kevin Durant, who may very well want out should his leading point guard be on his way out. And what sharp bettors have been targeting is an impending move to Phoenix.
The Suns would be able to ship Ayton and other assets in a sign-and-trade to Brooklyn for Durant.
The Spurs and Pistons round out the main contenders with +500 odds each, which implies a probability of 16.67% that the big man lands in either San Antonio or Detroit.
The Suns' odds of +130 imply the odds that he stays put are about 43.5%. The Nets' odds have increased from a measly 1.6% to a respectable 28.5%.
Every other team's odds of acquiring Ayton are at least +1400.
