Once the Utah Jazz decided to move on from Rudy Gobert in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, it seemed like only a matter of time before Donovan Mitchell was moved, too.
Utah downplayed the scenario in the moments after the trade, but it appears the time has come to trade the franchise's star.
ESPN reported the team is now listening to trade offers for Mitchell, who will be 26 next season. The guard has four years left on a five-year, $163-million deal he signed, with the final year being a player option.
The question only seems to be where Mitchell will be traded rather than if he'll be moved.
And, of course, the first place we look to is New York.
The Knicks have struggled to land the type of star power they believe they're accustomed to or deserving of. They signed Jalen Brunson but still need a top option to get the franchise back to relevance.
Is that Mitchell? The oddsmakers at PointsBet think so, where they've made the Knicks the even-money favorite to land Mitchell. New York could potentially offer a package with a number of players, such as RJ Barrett, Julius Randle and Immanuel Quickley, paired with draft picks as Utah begins its rebuild.
If not the Knicks, Miami is the next favorite at +250. Pat Riley is always aggressive when it comes to shopping for stars and could move Tyler Herro or Kyle Lowry in a package. Mitchell would join Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler to continue Miami's championship chase.
There's a clear drop-off to the next tier of teams. At +700 are the Celtics, Raptors and Nets. Brooklyn, of course, is stuck in trade talks around Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Utah and Brooklyn could engage in a three-team trade to send Mitchell to the Nets, draft picks and young assets to Utah and Durant or Irving to a third team.
The Raptors are among the teams in those same conversations. The Celtics have proven to be aggressive in the market coming off an NBA Finals loss to the Warriors.
The Lakers are the Lakers, so they're "involved" in every rumor around a star. They're +1000 along with the Warriors and unpredictable Kings.
