Former Cleveland Cavalier and current Brooklyn Nets swingman Joe Harris joined the Mickstape basketball podcast today to discuss a variety of fun topics.
My favorite tidbits from the pod came when Harris reminisced about his rookie season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The fun starts with Harris declaring, “Guys like to gamble on plane rides." (Anyone who read our behind-the-scenes story on the Gilbert Arenas-Javaris Crittenton gambling feud already knew that …)
Harris then goes into a great story about how former teammate Kendrick Perkins used to call him “the accountant” because of his appearance — he's “a basic-looking dude."
The best part of the whole exchange is when Harris discusses how Perk used to make him count his gambling winnings for him:
"He also called me that (accountant) because he used to have me count his winnings from his card games. And, he used to kind of break me off a little bit here and there. So, I’d look forward to all the plane rides where all of a sudden I’d get hit, and it would be the duffel bag, and I’d be like ‘all right’. And I’d just sit back there (Harris counting money motion).”
Love it! Perk is a legend for this, and Harris is the man for knowing his role as a rookie. I wonder how many other players around the league have similar gambling stories, because we need more of these ASAP!
