Memphis Grizzlies vs Sacramento Kings NBA Monday Preview

Even without Ja Morant, I just don't trust the Kings in this spot. The Kings are 10-18-3 against the spread at home, and Memphis is 18-13-1 ATS on the road and 9-7-1 ATS as a road 'dog.

The Grizzlies will win this game, in my opinion. Sacramento is 16-10 straight up as a home favorite, but they're in the bottom 10 in the league, making them underwhelming in this spot. Memphis is 6-11 straight up as a road underdog, ranking 12th in the league. This highlights how difficult it is to win in this situation. But I think Memphis gets it done.

The Grizzlies won five of six, including two on the road — one in Dallas, one in New Orleans. The Kings have lost four straight: At the Clippers, home against the Knicks, at Golden State and in Phoenix. All of those teams are better than the Kings, maybe except Phoenix, who beat the Kings with a one day rest advantage while Sacramento was on the back-to-back.

Memphis is just better and them at +2.5 is an overreaction to Morant's absence. Memphis has had 11 guys play at least 600 minutes this season, all of whom are or have been rotation players. Morant, among those players, is second to last in win shares per 48 minutes (.116) only ahead of Jaylen Wells.

He's also fifth in box plus minus this season when he should be top two or three, at least, on the team. He's obviously a great player, but to the spread, he's not that much of a dramatic swing against the Kings, in particular, especially considering recent form.

The Grizzlies enter as +120 moneyline underdogs against the Sacramento Kings, but their strong road record (18-13-1 ATS) and recent form make them a solid bet.

Despite missing Ja Morant, Memphis has won five of its last six games, while Sacramento has lost four straight and struggled to cover at home (10-18-3 ATS).
