Atlanta Hawks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Preview
The Hawks have taken the first two meetings from the Cavaliers this season. The last victory helped the Hawks clinch Group C and secure a berth in the quarterfinal of the NBA Cup. However, they enter this matchup on a six-game losing streak, which will not be easy to snap with the loss of Jalen Johnson.
The 23-year-old had been battling a shoulder injury over the last few weeks and had missed the last three games after re-aggravating the injury against the Raptors. Yesterday, the team announced Johnson suffered a torn labrum and will undergo season-ending surgery.
Tonight, the Hawks will also be without Clint Capela and Bogdan Bogdanovic (who remains away from the team due to personal reasons).
Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are traveling back home for the second night of a back-to-back. However, they are doing so in good spirits after a 126-106 victory over the Heat.
With Darius Garland resting, Donovan Mitchell manned the point and had 34 points, six assists, and just one turnover. Evan Mobley had 22 points and 15 rebounds while George Niang and Ty Jerome combined for 35 points off the bench.
For Mitchell, it was his sixth 30-point game in his last nine games and he is averaging 28.4 points per game in that span. He figures to get his backcourt mate tonight and Garland has been in good form as well. He has 20 points and six assists in nine of his last 10 games. He is averaging 21.7 points and 6.8 assists per game this season.
Meanwhile, Mobley is coming off his 20th double-double of the season and he is five of his career-high. He has had 10 rebounds in seven of his last 10 games.
Hawks vs. Cavaliers Best Bets, Predictions
Like basketball is a game of runs, this series has been one of runs as well. The Cavaliers won the first three meetings last season, but since the Hawks have won the last three matchups. Tonight, I believe the Cavaliers start a new streak.
The Cavaliers have the NBA's best offense this season and ranks second in offensive rating at home. However, their defensive rating at home (108.9) is better than on the road (115.1) as well.
As a result, Cleveland is 22-3 at home with a +11.9 net rating. It has been favored in every home game this season and is 16-9 against the spread in that spot and 31-16 ATS this season.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are just 20-27 ATS this season and 11-13 ATS on the road. They rank 24th in offensive rating this season and will now have to readjust without Johnson for the remainder of the season.
The Hawks have failed to crack 100 points in each of their last three games. I don't always love laying double digits with NBA spreads, but this situation calls for it.
The Cavaliers have found themselves in that spot many times this season and covered, most recently, Monday in a 110-91 victory over the Pistons.
I am also going all Cavaliers with tonight's same game parlay. Mitchell has scored 25 points in five of his last nine games against the Hawks and as mentioned, he has been on a 30-point binge of late.
Garland has had 20 points in five of his last eight games against the Hawks and finished with 19 in two others. He also has had six assists in five of the last eight meetings as well.
Mobley has had 12 rebounds in four straight games against the Hawks, who are 23rd in rebounds allowed this season. If the Hawks continue to struggle, that will increase Mobley's rebound chances and help us cash this parlay.
Best Bet: Cavaliers -10
