Atlanta Hawks vs Dallas Mavericks NBA Preview
Tonight’s game features two teams that are battling for seeding in their respective conferences, both looking to secure a play-in spot for the playoffs. It is arguably a more important game for the Mavericks though, considering the home side is only one game above the last play-in spot. To start, I'm taking the Over on assists for both Anthony Davis and Trae Young.
Davis has covered this line in two straight games. With the addition of Daniel Gafford in the starting lineup, AD has found himself away from the basket looking to dump it into Gafford or kick it out to sharp shooters like PJ Washington, Spencer Dinwiddie, and of course Klay Thompson. His potential assists are up as well, which means his playmaking is at a high. I also believe that the Hawks will have to double-team AD tonight to stop him from scoring, which will leave even more opportunities for him to create for his teammates.
The other player we are focusing on tonight in the passing department is Trae Young. Over the last five games, Trae has covered this line five straight times, with his high over the stretch being 19 assists. It’s clear that he is one of the best passers in the league at the moment. I will be looking for him to continue his creative dominance tonight.
I'm also backing both Dyson Daniels and Daniel Gafford to crash the glass tonight. Dyson Daniels has cleared his line in four straight outings, and also six of his last seven. He’s the Hawks' second-best rebounder across the stretch, with only Onyeka Okongwu, their starting center, outperforming him.
Tonight, I believe Okongwu is going to have his hands full with the likes of Gafford, AD and PJ Washington crashing the offensive glass for the Mavericks, leaving plenty of opportunities for Daniels to be involved.
In his first game back from injury, Daniel Gafford cleared his 5.5 line in just 19 minutes. He’s known for being one of the better offensive rebounders in the league, and teams thrive off second chance points. In the previous outing against Atlanta, he had 9 boards in 23 minutes. Encouraging signs as he continues to up his minutes prior to playoffs.
