Jazz vs. Suns Preview

After being one of the "nosiest" teams at the trade deadline, the Phoenix Suns did not acquire Jimmy Butler. They also didn't trade Kevin Durant or Bradley Beal. They did acquire Nick Richards a few weeks ago and Cody Martin and Vasilije Micic yesterday while sending out Jusuf Nurkic. However, with their Big Three intact, the Suns now turn their attention toward the stretch run.

Phoenix is ninth in the Western Conference and a half game up on Golden State in the play-in race. The Suns will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak and may be facing just the right opponent as they welcome the Jazz to the Footprint Center. Utah has lost eight of its past 10 games and nine straight contests against the Suns. Tonight, the Jazz will be without guards Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson.

The Jazz have struggled in this matchup because they have struggled to contain Devin Booker. In his past 12 games, Booker has scored 24 or more points, including 30 or more in his past three. However, tonight, he may have an equal impact as a facilitator.

Booker has had six assists in 12 of his past 20 games and finished with five in three additional games. Utah is 25th in assists allowed per game this season and Booker has had seven assists in five of the past eight meetings between these teams. The ball also may be in his hands even more as Durant and Beal are both questionable for tonight's game.

Meanwhile, Will Hardy has handed the keys of his offense to Isaiah Collier of late. The rookie got off to a rough start in his NBA career, but is averaging 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game over his past 18 games. Collier's ability to penetrate should open up opportunities for his big men, particularly, John Collins. The Suns are 17th in points in the paint allowed per game this season, which should benefit Collins, who is converting 56.3% of his two-point opportunities this season.

Jazz vs. Suns Prediction

The Suns have won the first three matchups this season — all by eight points — and are favored by 8.5 points tonight. While I think the Suns will complete the season sweep, there may be more value in backing their team total.

In four of the past seven meetings, the Suns have scored 121 points (they finished with 120 points in another). While the status of Durant and Beal is a question, the Suns will face a Jazz defense that is 26th in points allowed per game (118.6) and 28th in defensive rating this season. Utah is also 28th in 3s allowed per game, which will benefit role players like Tyus Jones, Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale, who will be facing his former team.

As of this writing, props for Jones, Allen and O'Neale aren't available. But Booker's are, and I like him for at least 25 points and six assists tonight.

Without Sexton and Clarkson, Collier's assists prop (7.5) is a bit higher than usual tonight. However, he has recorded eight assists in seven of his past 10 games and has 21 assists in his past two games. He also had eight assists in the last meeting against the Suns.

In that game, Collins scored 22 points. Additionally, he has scored at least 20 in his past three games against the Suns.

Best Bet: Phoenix Suns Team Total Over 120.5 Points (-118, DraftKings)

Same-Game Parlay Picks

Devin Booker 25+ Points
Booker Over 5.5 Assists
Isaiah Collier Over 7.5 Assists
John Collins 18+ Points
