The Philadelphia 76ers are adding three more years of trust in the process. The Sixers and franchise cornerstone Joel Embiid agreed to a massive three-year $192.9 million maximum contract extension, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.
Embiid, who will make just over $51 million this season with the 76ers, declined his player option for the 2026-27 season to extend his deal which runs through the 2028-29 season. Embiid addressed the signing on his Instagram Friday morning, saying "Philadelphia is home. I want to be here for the rest of my career."
The extension aligns Embiid's contract with Philly's star point guard Tyrese Maxey, who signed a five-year $203 million deal with the Sixers at the end of his rookie deal. The 76ers also signed Paul George to a four-year $212 million free-agent deal this summer, giving the 76ers a trio they hope to win a championship with.
Speaking of championships, the 76ers are among the favorites to win the NBA title this season. At nearly every major book, the 76ers have the third-shortest odds to hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy this season, with their odds ranging from +800 to +900.
At BetMGM, the 76ers are getting 6.8% of betting tickets but 9.7% of handle, which places them behind the Oklahoma City Thunder (22.8%), Boston Celtics (11.7%) and Denver Nuggets (10%).
