So many members of the media gave the Clippers almost no chance to land Kawhi Leonard. Neither did the bookmakers and neither did the bettors.
For four days at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, the Clippers sat at 16-1 to win the 2020 NBA title, up for the taking, while a team like the Raptors, totally dependent on landing Leonard, was at 6-1.
Over those four days, only one bettor bit, placing a $10 wager at 16-1 odds, according oddsmaker Jeff Sherman.
“Gamblers were speculating along with how the media was speculating,” Sherman told The Action Network.
The Westgate took a $10,000 wager on the Lakers at +175 odds last Monday. The bet was made as more and more speculation connected Kawhi to the franchise.
The Westgate closed last night and suspended odds at 16-1. When it opened this morning at 7 a.m. Pacific time, the Clippers were favorites at 3-1. The Raptors, meanwhile, moved from 6-1 to 80-1 and the Lakers' odds lengthened from +150 to +600.
