Kings vs. Mavericks Preview

The Kings suffered a big loss in the opening minutes of Saturday's game against the Rockets as all-star center Domantas Sabonis went down with an injury. He suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain and will be out at least one week. Without Sabonis, the Kings were still able to extend their win to three with a 113-103 victory.

Zach LaVine and Demar DeRozan combined for 41 points and led six Kings in double digits. Center Jonas Valanciunas had a double-double (15 points and 14 rebounds) in place of Sabonis. The Kings acquired the veteran big man at the trade deadline and that move will certainly pay dividends while Sabonis is out.

The Kings remain in Texas tonight as they take on the Dallas Mavericks. Tonight's game could be impactful down the stretch as the teams are tied for the ninth seed in the Western Conference. However, the Kings have won both meetings and hold the tiebreaker already. They earned that tiebreaker with a 129-128 overtime victory in Dallas last month.

Dallas fell to the Bucks 132-117 on Saturday night. It has lost three of its last four games as it battles injuries without Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford, and Dereck Lively II out long-term and P.J. Washington out tonight as well. However, they may be closer to full strength over the next few weeks as Davis and Lively are set to re-evaluated soon.

Mavs guard Klay Thompson called tonight's game a must-win given the circumstances. He will have the matchup for a big performance as the Kings are 28th in 3-points allowed per game and last in 3-point percentage defense. Thompson has made three 3-pointers in nine of his last 10 games and knocked down four in six of his last seven games.

Kyrie Irving has knocked down at least two 3s in eight of his last 10 games and will benefit from the matchup from the Kings as well. He has scored 30 points in his last two games against the Kings and in five of his last seven games overall. His points line is listed at 29.5 tonight.

Kings vs. Mavericks Prediction

I was on the Over in the Mavericks last game against Milwaukee and that game finished with 249 points. I am going back to that well again as the Over is now 6-3-1 in the Mavericks last 10 games. The Over is 33-26 in Kings' games this season as well.

While the last meeting did need overtime, it cleared a total of 238.5 points and tonight we'll need 232 points. These teams are seventh and ninth, respectively, in offensive rating this season. Additionally, it would not be a surprise if the Kings ran a little more without Sabonis, resulting in more possessions in this game.

Without Sabonis, DeRozan and LaVine likely will have the ball in their hands even more. DeRozan already had recorded five assists in five of his last six games and had six against Houston. Meanwhile, LaVine has scored 20 points in seven of his last 10 games and in three of his last five against Sacramento.

Combining these legs with Irving to score 30 points and Thompson to hit 4+ three-pointers gets us up to +625 odds for tonight's parlay.

Best Bet: Over 231.5 (-110)

Same Game Parlay Picks

  • Kyrie Irving Over 29.5 Points
  • Zach LaVine 20+ Points
  • Klay Thompson Over 3.5 Made Three-Pointers
  • DeMar DeRozan Over 4.5 Assists

Parlay Payout: +625
