Knicks vs. Suns Preview
The Knicks recently concluded a 3-1 homestand and on Monday night, they were able to rest their starters with a 134-106 blowout victory over the Wizards. Tonight, they will head West to begin a five-game road trip against the Phoenix Suns.
For Phoenix, expectations were high for the second season with their Big 3 (Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal) and a fresh start under new head coach Mike Budenholzer. The Suns got off to an 8-1 start with several victories in clutch time, a major area of weakness from last season. However, they enter tonight's game having lost five of their past six.
Injuries have bit them as they are playing without Durant and Beal, who are both out again tonight. In that span, the Suns are averaging just 104.6 points per game. Without Durant and Beal, defenses have been able to prioritize slowing down Booker. Though he did have a 44-point outburst on Sunday against Minnesota, Booker has scored 20 points or less in three of his past five games. Tonight, he will see a lot of OG Anunoby and/or former teammate Mikal Bridges.
It hasn't gone much better on the other end for the Suns as they have a 118.6 defensive rating over their past six games, fifth worst in the league in that span. Tonight, they will face a Knicks offense that ranks third in offensive rating for the season and second over the past five games. The Knicks have scored 114 points in seven of their past eight games, winning five of those games.
Karl-Anthony Towns has been a standout for the Knicks, as he is averaging 26.2 points per game on 54.4% shooting from the field. He's also shooting 51.5% from 3 and grabbing 12.4 rebounds per game. Towns has scored 20 points in nine of his past 10 games and averaging 29.5 points per game in that span. Towns has also enjoyed a ton of success against the Suns in his career, averaging 23.3 points and 10.9 rebounds in 27 career games against the Suns.
Knicks vs. Suns Prediction
The Suns have been without Durant for the past six games and have been without Durant and Beal for the past four games. Without Durant, the Suns have a -9.4 rating over their past six games and have lost four games by nine points or more. Without the production of two of their stars, they will be hard-pressed to match the Knicks firepower tonight.
The Knicks could have a lot of success behind the arc as they rank third third in 3-point percentage while the Suns are 24th in 3-point percentage defense. I am certainly expecting a few from Towns, who has made 30 triples over his past 10 games. That has helped Towns score 25 points in six of his past 10 games.
I expect Towns to lead the Knicks to a victory tonight while his teammates slow down his former college teammate.
Booker is averaging 23.5 points this season and 24.4 over his past five games. He has gone under tonight's line of 27.5 points in three of his past five games, so I have to back the under as the third leg of my same-game parlay.
Best Bet: Knicks -5 (-112, FanDuel)
Same Game Parlay: Knicks -5| Karl-Anthony Towns 25 Points| Devin Booker Under 27.5 Points (+357, FanDuel)
